Santa Caterina is a Roman Catholic, Renaissance-style church in Urbania, region of Marche, Italy. History The small church, best described as an oratory, by the 14th century housed the Confraternity of the Artists, and was dedicated to St Catherine of Alexandria, patron of this guild and of artists. The building was reconstructed in 1522 by the architect Taddeo Zandrini. The interiors have a rich baroque stucco decoration. The ceiling was decorated by the stucco artists and painters and by Ottaviano and Lucio Dolci, and Agostino Apolloni. The ceiling has oval panels depicting ''Allegories of the Virtues'', while to the sides are depicted events in the ''Life of St Catherine''. The four niches in the wall house 17th century statues of the prophets by Tommaso Amantini. Hermitage of Santa Caterina del Sasso ( it, Eremo di Santa Caterina del Sasso) is a Roman Catholic monastery located in the municipality of Leggiuno, in the Province of Varese and the region of Lombardy, Italy. It is perched on a rocky ridge on the eastern shore 16m above Lake Maggiore. The monastery can be reached on foot by descending down a long winding stairway or by taking an elevator or by a number of ferry services or boats that dock at the pier. The construction of the monastery dates from the 14th century, although the more recent frescos are from the 19th century. It consists of three buildings: the southern convent, the convent and the main church. In 1914 it was declared a national monument. Santa Caterina dei Funari is a church in Rome in Italy, in the rione of Sant'Angelo. The church is mainly known for its façade and its interior with frescoes and paintings. History The church is located where the Castro Aureo of the Circus Flaminius was located, built by Gaius Flaminius in 221 B.C. Prior to the 13th century, the seats of the surrounding semi-ruined amphitheater were used to dry the wares produced by the string- and rope-makers (''funari''), hence, the name of the church. Originally a small church dedicated to Santa Rosa di Viterbo was adjacent. The original church was a three-naved basilica, called "Santa Maria de Donna Rosa in Castro Aureo", named for the first time in 1192 in a document of Pope Celestine III. Santa Caterina da Siena is a church in Rome dedicated to Catherine of Siena. It is sited on via Giulia in the Regola district. History This church is indissolubly linked to the history of the Archconfraternity of Siena in Rome, to which it still belongs. A sizable Sienese community in Rome was established at the end of the 14th century, and first used the church of Santa Maria in Monterone as its home before shifting to Santa Maria sopra Minerva (site of Catherine of Siena's tomb) around the middle of the 15th century. Santa Caterina da Siena is a Baroque architecture, Roman Catholic church in the district Venezia Nuova central Livorno, region of Tuscany, Italy. It stands in front of the Piazza dei Domenicani. The church is notable for its tall octagonal dome and lantern rising above a rough, unfinished rectangular base. History The church was commissioned by the Dominican order, and dedicated to St Catherine of Siena. A sumptuous church, modelled after the Pantheon of Rome was designed originally by Giovanni Del Fantasia; however, after construction began in 1720, progress was slow and interrupted, and thus a new design was ordered in 1729 from Alessandro Saller, then Giovanni Masini, and finally Giuseppe Ruggieri. Santa Caterina a Formiello is a church in Naples, in southern Italy, located at the extreme eastern end of the old historic center of the city, on Via Carbonara and Piazza Enrico de Nicola, near the gate called Porta Capuana. The term ''Formiello'' comes from the forms or containers for water spouts found in the convent. Diagonally across the street and South is the Fontana del Formiello against the rear wall of the imposing Castel Capuano.
