Santa Catarina Hospital
Santa Catarina Hospital is a private institution located on Paulista Avenue, in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. It was founded in 1906 and is maintained by the Santa Catarina Congregation Association, a philanthropic entity that also operates in the states of Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo, Mato Grosso, and Rio Grande do Sul. History Background In 1897, the Heinrich sisters arrived in Brazil to educate the children of German settlers in the country. After participating in the foundation of a school and the Santa Tereza Hospital in Petrópolis, and the Holy House of Juiz de Fora, they went to São Paulo to help the Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, Virgin and Martyr to establish an ambulatory to attend the demand of sick people who sought the institution. Jorge Tibiriçá Piratininga (November 15, 1855 — September 30, 1928) was a Brazilian politician who served as president (governor) of São Paulo. Biography Jorge Tibiriçá Piratininga, the son of João Tibiriçá Piratininga, was born in Paris on what was to become the day of the proclamation of the Brazilian Republic. He studied agriculture and philosophy in Germany and Switzerland, and was president of the Republican Party of São Paulo (PRP) of which his father had helped form. He was the second person to be named governor of the State of São Paulo following Prudente de Morais. Before Morais' nomination the state was governed by a triumvirate between Prudente de Morais, Joaquim de Sousa Mursa, and Francisco Rangel Pestana. Constitutionalist Revolution
The Constitutionalist Revolution of 1932 (sometimes also referred to as Paulista War or Brazilian Civil War) is the name given to the uprising of the population of the Brazilian state of São Paulo against the Brazilian Revolution of 1930 when Getúlio Vargas assumed the nation's Presidency; Vargas was supported by the people, the military and the political elites of Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul and Paraíba. The movement grew out of local resentment from the fact that Vargas ruled by decree, unbound by a Constitution, in a provisional government.
