Sanremo Music Festival 1981
The Sanremo Music Festival 1981 ( it, Festival di Sanremo 1981), officially the 31st Italian Song Festival (), was the 31st annual Sanremo Music Festival, held at the Teatro Ariston in Sanremo, province of Imperia between 5 and 7 February 1981 and broadcast by Rai 1. The show was hosted by Claudio Cecchetto, assisted by the actress Eleonora Vallone and by the singer Nilla Pizzi (two times winner of the Festival). The winner of the Festival was Alice with the song "Per Elisa". This was the first edition to be entirely broadcast on RAI, after eight years in which the live broadcast was restricted only to the final night of the festival. Claudio Cecchetto
Claudio Cecchetto (born 19 April 1952) is an Italian record producer and talent scout. Life and career Cecchetto was born in Ceggia, (metropolitan city of Venice). He has hosted several Italian music festivals, from Festival di Sanremo to Festivalbar, and many television programs throughout his career. Following a spell at Radio 105 Network, he founded the stations Radio DeeJay and Radio Capital. He is also known for being the talent scout for several musical artists and television personalities, including Gerry Scotti, Jovanotti, Fiorello, Sabrina Salerno, 883, Nikki, B-nario, Albertino, DJ Linus, Luca Laurenti, Marco Mazzoli, Daniele Bossari, Fabio Volo, Tracy Spencer, Taffy, Leonardo Pieraccioni, DJ Francis (aka Francesco Facchinetti) and more recent acts like Finley. Luca Barbarossa
Luca Barbarossa (born 15 April 1961, Rome) is an Italian singer-songwriter who has released 12 albums since 1981, and is known for his participation in the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest. Early career In 1980, Barbarossa won the Castrocaro Music Festival, where he was spotted by a producer for the Fonit-Cetra record company, who signed him to a recording contract. As the Castrocaro winner, he was eligible to compete in the 1981 San Remo Festival, where he finished fourth with the self-penned song "Roma spogliata". His first self-titled album was released in the same year, and he toured as support act to Riccardo Cocciante. The album, and the singles released from it, were not notably successful and relations soured with Fonit-Cetra, leading to Barbarossa's departure from the label. Eduardo De Crescenzo
Eduardo De Crescenzo (born 8 February 1951) is an Italian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, best known for the songs "Ancora" and "E la musica va". Background Born in Naples, De Crescenzo approached music at very young age, as he began playing the accordion at 3 and made his first public exhibition at 5, in Teatro Argentina, Rome. At 16 he founded a beat group, "''Eduardino e i Casanova''", with which he recorded the first 45rpm in 1967, "Hai detto no!". Passengers (Italian Band)
Passengers (also spelled as I Passengers or The Passengers) were an Italian-American pop/italo disco band, mainly successful in the early eighties. History The group formed in 1979, and consisted of two male vocalists (Gesualdo "Kim" Arena, already active from the late 1960s, and Chuck Rolando) and two female vocalists (Mary Shay Collen and Elwanda Contreras). Produced by Angelo and Felice Piccaredda, Passengers got their first hits in 1980 with the single "He's Speedy Like Gonzales", which ranked tenth at the Italian hit parade, and a cover version of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". Giovanni Bella, best known as Gianni Bella (born 14 March 1946), is an Italian composer and singer-songwriter. Background Born in Catania, Bella started his career as composer for his sister, singer Marcella Bella authoring several hits with lyricist Giancarlo Bigazzi. In the seventies he debuted as a singer himself, scoring his first major success in 1974 with the song "Più ci penso", which ranked second in the Italian hit parade. Giancarlo Bigazzi (5 September 1940 – 19 January 2012) was an Italian music producer and composer. He was a former member of comedy music group Squallor. Michele Zarrillo
Michele Zarrillo (born 13 June 1957) is an Italian singer-songwriter. He is mainly known for hits such as "Una rosa blu" (A blue rose), "Cinque giorni" (Five days), L'elefante e la farfalla (The elephant and the butterfly) and "La notte dei pensieri" (The night of thoughts). In 1987 he won the Sanremo Music Festival, competing in the newcomers' section. Gian Piero Reverberi (born 29 July 1939 in Genoa) is an Italian pianist, composer, arranger, conductor, and entrepreneur. Biography After obtaining Diplomas in piano and composition from the Paganini Conservatory in Genoa, Reverberi worked in a wide range of media, including TV themes, spaghetti Western soundtracks to pop and rock records, where alongside Robert Mellin he composed the memorable theme music to the children's TV series ''The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe'' in 1964. Daniele Pace (20 April 1935 – 24 October 1985) was an Italian composer, lyricist and singer-songwriter. Life and career Born in Milan, Pace started his career as lead vocalist of the group I Marcellini. After a brief solo career as a singer-songwriter, in the early 1960s he was enrolled by CGD as a composer and lyricist, often teaming with Mario Panzeri. The duo had several hits, and some of their songs were covered in other languages and became international successes.
