Sannie Overly
Sannie Louise Overly (born July 2, 1966) is an American lawyer, engineer, and politician. A member of the Democratic Party, Overly served in the Kentucky House of Representatives, representing the 72nd district. She was the Democratic caucus chair from 2013 to 2017 (fifth-ranking in the majority), and is the first woman to serve in a leadership role in the Kentucky House. She was the Democratic Party nominee for lieutenant governor of Kentucky in 2015, and was elected chair of the Kentucky Democratic Party in 2016. Early life and education Overly was born in Millersburg, Kentucky, and graduated from Bourbon County High School. The Kentucky Democratic Party is the affiliate of the Democratic Party in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The party is a longstanding institution in the Commonwealth; 45.7% of Kentuckians were registered as Democrats in 2022, more than the 44.8% who were registered with the Republican Party. Matt Bevin
Matthew Griswold Bevin (; born January 9, 1967) is an American businessman and politician who served as the 62nd governor of Kentucky, from 2015 to 2019. He was the third Republican elected Kentucky governor since World War II, after Ernie Fletcher (2003–2007) and Louie Nunn (1967–1971). Born in Denver, Colorado, and raised in Shelburne, New Hampshire, Bevin earned a bachelor's degree at Washington and Lee University in 1989, then served four years of active duty in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of captain. 2015 Kentucky Gubernatorial Election
The 2015 Kentucky gubernatorial election took place on November 3, 2015. Incumbent Democratic Governor Steve Beshear was ineligible to run for a third term due to term limits. Primary elections were held on May 19, 2015. Despite trailing in most pre-election polls, Republican nominee Matt Bevin defeated Democratic nominee Jack Conway by a margin of 52.5% to 43.8% in the general election. John William Conway (born July 5, 1969) is an American lawyer and politician from the Commonwealth of Kentucky. A member of the Democratic Party, Conway served as the 49th Attorney General of Kentucky from January 7, 2008 to January 4, 2016. Prior to his election as attorney general, he was the nominee for in the 2002 elections, narrowly losing to Republican incumbent Anne Northup. Conway was the Democratic nominee in the 2010 U.S. Senate election, seeking the seat of the retiring Republican Senator Jim Bunning. Robert Damron (politician)
Robert Damron (born June 20, 1954) is an American investment banker and politician from the state of Kentucky. Affiliated with the Democratic Party, Damron was a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives from 1993 until 2015, representing the 39th district. He served as the Democratic caucus chair for 4 years. He announced that he would not seek re-election to the state House in 2014, and would instead run for Jessamine County Judge-Executive, as incumbent William Neal Cassity did not running for re-election.
