Sangdopal Lepcha
S. P. Lepcha (15 May 1927 – 12 February 2018) was an Indian academic and politician from West Bengal belonging to Communist Party of India (Marxist). He was a member of the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha. Early life Lepcha was born on 15 May 1927 at Plungdung Basti in Darjeeling to Pusang Lepcha and Dolmi. Career Lepcha was a school teacher of Singtam Tea Garden. He was elected as a member of the Rajya Sabha from West Bengal in 1980. Later, he was elected as a member of the Lok Sabha from Darjeeling in 1999. Personal life Lepcha was married to Jaisari Lepcha. They had two sons and five daughters. Death Lepcha died on 12 February 2018 at a nursing home in Pradhan Nagar of Siliguri at the age of 90. A Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha (abbreviated: MP) is the representative of the Indian states to the one of the two houses of the Parliament of India (Rajya Sabha). Rajya Sabha MPs are elected by the electoral college of the elected members of the State Assembly with a system of proportional representation by a single transferable vote. Parliament of India is bicameral with two houses; Rajya Sabha (Upper house i.e. Council of States) and the Lok Sabha (Lower house i.e. House of the People). Singtam Tea Garden (also spelled Singtom) is a census town in the Darjeeling Pulbazar CD block in the Darjeeling Sadar subdivision of the Darjeeling district in the state of West Bengal, India. Darjeeling District
Darjeeling District is the northernmost district of the state of West Bengal in eastern India in the foothills of the Himalayas. The district is famous for its hill station and Darjeeling tea. Darjeeling is the district headquarters. Kurseong, Siliguri and Mirik, three major towns in the district, are the subdivisional headquarters of the district. Kalimpong was one of the subdivisions but on 14 February 2017, it officially became a separate Kalimpong district. Geographically, the district can be divided into two broad divisions: the hills and the plains. The entire hilly region of the district comes under the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration, a semi-autonomous administrative body under the state government of West Bengal.
