Sangam (Urdu Film)
''Sangam'' is a Pakistani Urdu film released in 1964. Cast *Rosy * Haroon * Sumita * Khalil It was the first full-length colour movie made in Pakistan. Production The film was made in Bengali-speaking East Pakistan, and Raihan and much of the cast and crew were from there, but for commercial reasons it was produced in Urdu. Raihan's decision to film in colour was influenced by the first colour laboratory in Pakistan being located in Dacca, at the fledgling government-run East Pakistan Film Development Corporation. Most of the film was shot on location in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Kaptai Lake and its surrounding hills feature prominently. ''Sangam'' was produced and directed by Zahir Raihan. Zahir Raihan
Mohammad Zahirullah (19 August 1935 – disappeared 30 January 1972), known as Zahir Raihan, was a Bangladeshi novelist, writer and filmmaker. He is most notable for his documentary ''Stop Genocide'' (1971), made during the Bangladesh Liberation War. He was posthumously awarded Ekushey Padak in 1977 and Independence Day Award in 1992 by the Government of Bangladesh. Early life and education Mohammad Zahirullah was born on 19 August 1935, at Majupur, a village in the Feni Mahakuma under Noakhali district of the Bengal Presidency in British India (now Feni district in Bangladesh). After the Partition of Bengal in 1947, he, along with his parents, returned to his village from Calcutta. He obtained his bachelor's in Bengali from the University of Dhaka. East Pakistan
East Pakistan was a Pakistani province established in 1955 by the One Unit Scheme, One Unit Policy, renaming the province as such from East Bengal, which, in modern times, is split between India and Bangladesh. Its land borders were with India and Myanmar, with a coastline on the Bay of Bengal. East Pakistanis were popularly known as "Pakistani Bengalis"; to distinguish this region from India's state West Bengal (which is also known as "Indian Bengal"), East Pakistan was known as "Pakistani Bengal". Chittagong Hill Tracts
The Chittagong Hill Tracts ( bn, পার্বত্য চট্টগ্রাম, Parbotto Chottogram), often shortened to simply the Hill Tracts and abbreviated to CHT, are group of districts within the Chittagong Division in southeastern Bangladesh, bordering India and Myanmar (Burma). Covering , they formed a single district until 1984, when they were divided into three districts: Khagrachari District, Rangamati Hill District, and Bandarban District. Topographically, the Hill Tracts are the only extensively hilly area in Bangladesh. It was historically settled by many tribal refugees from Burma Arakan in 16th century and now it is settled by the Jumma people. Today, it remains one of the least developed parts of Bangladesh. Bangladesh Film Development Corporation or BFDC, is a government owned and operated corporation in Tejgaon, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Nuzhat Yeasmin is the managing director of the corporation. History The organization was founded in 1959 as the East Pakistan Film Development Corporation which was changed to Bangladesh Film Development Corporation after Bangladesh achieved independence in 1971. It signed an agreement with National Film Development Corporation of India in 2016 to jointly produce a documentary on Bangladesh Liberation war. Iftekharul Alam Kislu (1927/28 - 5 January 2019) was a Bangladeshi film producer and businessperson. He was the president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce & Industries. Biography Kislu was Ahmed Sharif's uncle. He was the owner of Star Film Corporation. He produced '' Sangam'' (1964), '' Anwara'' (1967), ''Ora Egaro Jon'' (1972) and ''Dui Poisar Alta'' (1982). Besides his career in Dhallywood Kislu was a businessperson. He was the president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce & Industries in 1980.
