Sangaldan Tunnel
The Sangaldan Railway Tunnel is a 7.1 km (4.4 mile) railway tunnel between Katra-Banihal section of Jammu–Baramulla line located to the north of Sangaldan town of middle Himalayas in Jammu and Kashmir, India near Ramban district. The tunnel was completed on 4 December 2010. Background and challenges The tunnel has been constructed by Konkan Railway Corporation, a subsidiary of the Indian Railways, as a part of its Udhampur-Srinagar- Baramulla rail link project. The tunnel passes through strata of poor geology, consisting of Muree formation. The excavation was done using drill and blast method. The construction phase was littered with tunnel collapses and slope failures. Udhampur
Udhampur (ˌʊd̪ʱəmpur) is a city and a municipal council in Udhampur district in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It is the headquarters of Udhampur District. Named after Raja Udham Singh, it serves as the district capital and the Northern Command headquarters of the Indian Army. IRICEN
Indian Railways Institute of Civil Engineering (IRICEN), Pune is the training institute for the Civil engineers of the Indian Railways. The institute had a modest start in 1959 as the ''Permanent Way Training School'' for training entry level Civil engineers. It is now a Centralised Training Institute and trains officers of the IRSE cadre of the Indian Railways. Located in the city of Pune, IRICEN imparts training to up to 100 engineers/ managers at a time. Baramulla (), also known as Varmul () in Kashmiri, is a town and a municipality in the Baramulla district in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
