Sanford Sigoloff
Sanford C. Sigoloff (September 8, 1930 – February 19, 2011) was an American businessman and philanthropist. He became known as "Mr. Chapter 11" for his rescuing of a number of companies from bankruptcy, in the course of which he pioneered an investor-friendly " slash-and-burn strategy" at the expense of employees. He supported charitable causes and the UCLA Anderson School of Management, where is the namesake of an endowed chair. Early life Sanford C. Sigoloff was born on September 8, 1930, in St. Louis, Missouri. His father served as a physician in the United States Army during World War II. Bernard "Bernie" Marcus (born May 12, 1929) is an American billionaire businessman. He co-founded The Home Depot and was the company's first CEO, and chairman until retiring in 2002. Early life and education Bernard Marcus was born to Russian Jewish immigrant parents in Newark, New Jersey. He was the youngest of four children and grew up in a tenement. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) is the United States' official memorial to the Holocaust. Founded in 1922, it was initially owned and operated by a private investment firm affiliated with General Mills, and purchased in 1968 by Gamble-Skogmo. At the time of its closing in 1993, it had 82 stores in Southern California and an additional 15 in Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona and Texas; 4,300 employees in total.
