Sandycroft
Sandycroft is a village in Flintshire, Wales, approximately southeast of Queensferry and southwest of Chester, on the B5129 road between Queensferry and Broughton. The community population taken at the 2011 census was 6,724. Railway station Sandycroft railway station was opened in 1884, and was served by the North Wales Coast Line for 77 years until its closure under the Beeching Axe in 1961. Geography The village is part of the Deeside conurbation and is located immediately south of the River Dee, which is canalised at this point between Chester and the Dee Estuary. It is accessible from the A494 via the Queensferry Interchange. A large industrial estate lies to the north of the village, expanded in 2018 with the addition of a manufacturing site for Ifor Williams Trailers. Sandycroft Railway Station
Sandycroft railway station was located on the eastern edge of the village of Sandycroft, Flintshire. History Opened 1 March 1884 by the London and North Western Railway, it was served by what is now the North Wales Coast Line between Chester, Cheshire and Holyhead, Anglesey. The station was located near Deeside, in England. It had two platforms made of wood, upon which were only very basic wooden waiting facilities, and a single storey brick booking office. The two platforms were connected by a footbridge and there was a signalbox positioned between the middle two of the four tracks. In 1896 the then Archbishop of Canterbury, Edward Benson died at Hawarden Castle and his body was put on the train at Sandycroft to be returned to London. Deeside
Deeside ( cy, Glannau Dyfrdwy) is the name given to a predominantly industrial conurbation of towns and villages in Flintshire and Cheshire on the Wales–England border lying near the canalised stretch of the River Dee that flows from neighbouring Chester into the Dee Estuary. These include Connah's Quay, Shotton, Queensferry, Aston, Garden City, Sealand, Broughton, Bretton, Hawarden, Ewloe, Mancot, Pentre, Saltney and Sandycroft. The population is around 50,000, with a plurality (17,500) living in Connah's Quay. Deeside is known for its industry, providing jobs for the people of Cheshire, Merseyside and North Wales. Queensferry, Flintshire
Queensferry ( cy, Fferi Buddug / Fferi Isaf) is a town, community and electoral ward in Flintshire, Wales, lying on the River Dee near the border. The community includes the village of Sandycroft. It is between Connah's Quay, Shotton and Saltney Ferry. Queensferry is also part of the wider Deeside conurbation. Description Its name derives from the ferries that crossed the River Dee. The settlement of Higher Ferry ( cy, Y Fferi Uchaf) is now known as Saltney, while Queensferry was named Lower Ferry ( cy, Y Fferi Isaf). Ifor Williams Trailers is the United Kingdom's largest manufacturer of trailers under , based in Corwen, Denbighshire, North Wales. History Started in 1958 by local farmer Ifor Williams, an on-site galvanizing plant gives the company total control over quality and efficiency in the production of chassis and other assemblies. The company employs approximately 800 people across six sites in Clawdd Poncen, Cynwyd, Ruthin, Deeside and Sandycroft, Flintshire. During the Great Recession, 63 employees were made redundant in late 2008. Production was affected by fire on two occasions. Hawarden
Hawarden (; cy, Penarlâg) is a village, community and electoral ward in Flintshire, Wales. It is part of the Deeside conurbation on the Wales-England border and is home to Hawarden Castle. In the 2011 census the ward of the same name had a population of 1,887, whereas the community of the same name, which also includes Ewloe (which also has a castle) Mancot and Aston had a population of 13,920. The scenic wooded Hawarden Park abuts the clustered settlement in the south. Hawarden Bridge consists of distribution and industrial business premises beyond Shotton/ Queensferry and the Dee. Alexander Paul Coe (born 4 September 1969), known professionally as Sasha, is a Welsh DJ and record producer. He is best known for his live events and electronic music as a solo artist, as well as his collaborations with British DJ John Digweed as Sasha & John Digweed. Chester
Chester is a cathedral city and the county town of Cheshire, England. It is located on the River Dee, close to the English–Welsh border. Broughton, Flintshire
Broughton ( cy, Brychdyn) is a large village in Flintshire, Wales, close to the Wales–England border, located to the west of the city of Chester, England, in the community of Broughton and Bretton. Along with the nearby village of Bretton, the total population was 5,791 at the 2001 Census, increasing to 5,974 at the 2011 Census. Broughton is home to a large aircraft factory at Hawarden Airport. This was completed in 1939 for use by Vickers-Armstrongs, who built 5,786 Wellington bombers. De Havilland Aircraft took over the factory in 1948 and built 2,816 planes of several designs. Today, the plant is an Airbus factory that manufactures wings for the A320, A330 and A350 aircraft. North Wales Coast Line
The North Wales Coast Line ( cy, Llinell Arfordir Gogledd Cymru), also known as the North Wales Main Line ( cy, Prif Linell Gogledd Cymru or cy, label=none, Prif Linell y Gogledd), is a major railway line in the north of Wales and Cheshire, England, running from Crewe on the West Coast Main Line to Holyhead on the Isle of Anglesey.
