Sandy Rummel
Sandy Rummel (born August 10, 1942) is a Minnesota politician and a former member of the Minnesota Senate who represented District 53, which includes portions of Anoka and Ramsey counties in the northeastern Twin Cities metropolitan area. A Democrat, she was first elected to the Senate in 2006, but was unseated in the 2010 general election by Republican Roger Chamberlain. She was subsequently appointed to the Metropolitan Council by Governor Mark Dayton on March 2, 2011. Rummel was a member of the Senate's Education Committee (of which she was vice chair) and Energy, Utilities, Technology and Communications Committee. Roger Chamberlain
Roger Colin Chamberlain (born January 14, 1963) is an American politician. A member of the Republican Party, he served four terms in the Minnesota Senate, representing District 53 from 2011 to 2013 and District 38 from 2014 to 2023. Early life, education, and career Chamberlain attended Normandale Community College in Bloomington, receiving his A.A.S. in law enforcement. He later earned a B.S. in accounting from Metropolitan State University in Saint Paul. He also served in the United States Navy and in the United States Army National Guard. Minnesota Senate Chamberlain was first elected in 2010 from District 53, defeating one-term DFL senator Sandy Rummel. In 2012, 2016, and 2020, he was reelected, representing District 38. In his third term, he chaired the Senate Committee on Taxes. In his fourth term, he chaired the Education Committee and served as assistant majority leader. Metropolitan Council (Minnesota)
The Metropolitan Council, commonly abbreviated Met Council or Metro Council, is the regional governmental agency and metropolitan planning organization in Minnesota serving the Twin Cities seven-county metropolitan area, accounting for over 55 percent of the state's population. The Met Council is granted regional authority powers in statutes, state statutes by the Minnesota Legislature. These powers are unique in that unlike the Regional Development Commissions they can supersede decisions and actions of local governments. The legislature created the Metro Council to maintain public services, oversee growth of the state's largest metro area and to act as the regional planning organization. Like the Metro (Oregon regional government), Metro in Portland, Oregon, it also administers an urban growth boundary.
