Sandy R. Jones is an American politician from New Mexico. He is a former member of the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission from the 5th district, covering all of Catron, Doña Ana, Grant, Hidalgo, Luna, Sierra, and Valencia Counties and parts of Lincoln, Otero, Socorro, and Torrance Counties. Early life and education Born and raised on his family's farm in Corrales, New Mexico, Jones was active in 4-H and Future Farmers of America and graduated from West Mesa High School in Albuquerque. Career Jones was an assistant chief and training officer with Corrales Volunteer Fire Department for five years. For thirty years, he has owned and operated a road construction company. New Mexico Public Regulation Commission
The New Mexico Public Regulation Commission RCis a regulatory authority in New Mexico charged with the responsibility of seeing that utility customers have "fair and reasonable rates, and to assure reasonable and adequate services to the public as provided by law." The PRC regulates the insurance industry in New Mexico through its Division of Insurance, appointing an Insurance Superintendent who is a PRC employee having independent statutory powers. The PRC also has responsibility for motor carrier regulation, the State Fire Marshal's Office, the Firefighter Training Academy, Pipeline Safety and the registration of all corporations and limited liability companies doing business in New Mexico. Socorro County, New Mexico
Socorro County is a county in the U.S. state of New Mexico. As of the 2010 census, the population was 17,866. The county seat is Socorro. The county was formed in 1852 as one of the original nine counties of New Mexico Territory. Socorro was originally the name given to a Native American village (''see'': Puebloan peoples) by Don Juan de Oñate in 1598. Having received vitally needed food and assistance from the native population, Oñate named the pueblo ''Socorro'' ("succor" in English). Ray Bennett Powell is an American politician and veterinarian from the state of New Mexico. He served as New Mexico Commissioner of Public Lands from 1993 until 2003, and again from 2011 until 2015. Early life and education Powell was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in anthropology and biology from University of New Mexico, a Master of Science in botany and plant ecology from UNM, and a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Tufts University, with an emphasis in wildlife medicine. Career Powell entered politics in 1993 after he was appointed New Mexico commissioner of public lands by Governor Bruce King. He was elected to a full term in 1994 and reelected in 1998.
