Sandycove
Sandycove () is a suburb of Dublin, Ireland. It is southeast of Dún Laoghaire and Glasthule, and northwest of Dalkey. It is a popular seaside resort and is well known for its bathing place, the Forty Foot, which in the past was reserved for men only but is now available for mixed bathing. The locale features in the opening of ''Ulysses'' by James Joyce. History On 20 December 1940, during World War II, the Luftwaffe bombed the railway station even though Ireland was a neutral country. There were three injuries. Transport Sandycove and Glasthule railway station opened on 11 October 1855. Sandycove is also serviced by Dublin Bus numbers 59 and 111, and lies close to Dún Laoghaire harbour. Culture The writer James Joyce lived for a week as a young man in the Martello Tower situated beside the Forty Foot bathing place at Sandycove. Elliston, Newfoundland And Labrador
Elliston is an incorporated fishing settlement situated on the Bonavista Peninsula of Newfoundland, Canada. Incorporated in 1965, the town of Elliston was once called Bird Island Cove and it is composed of a number of communities, North Side, Noder Cover, Elliston Centre, Elliston Point, Porter's Point, Sandy Cove, The Neck and Maberly. Elliston is known as the Root Cellar Capital of the World and has claimed that title from the 135 root cellars that exist in the community. Elliston was renamed from Bird Island Cove by Reverend Charles Lench to honour the first Methodist Missionary, Reverend William Ellis, to this community. The name Bird Island Cove was used since the early 17th century and it gets its name from two small islands, North and South Bird Island, that lie off the south entrance of this cove. Savage Cove
Savage Cove is a community located on the Great Northern Peninsula, north of Flower's Cove on the coast of the Strait of Belle Isle. Savage Cove is the most northerly sheltered harbour in the straits on the island of Newfoundland. In 1996, Savage Cove and nearby Sandy Cove were officially consolidated into the Town of Savage Cove - Sandy Cove. History Being on what was known as the French Shore of Newfoundland, Savage Cove had first been used as a French staging harbour in the early 18th century. Once dubbed Anse aux Sauvages (Cove of Savages) by French seamen who had most likely encountered a Beothuk settlement in the area, the harbour was permanently settled in the 1830s by an English seaman named George Gaulton. The English seamen of the time had come to know the harbour as Savage Cove. The English name was finalized after the French relinquished their rights to the area in 1904 under the Entente cordiale. Lord's Cove
Lord's Cove is a town in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The town had a population of 155 in the Canada 2021 Census. Lord's Cove has a rich inshore fishing history and heritage. The town is approximately 65 km southeast of Marystown. On November 18, 1929, a tsunami, triggered by an offshore earthquake on the Grand Banks, killed Sarah Rennie and her three children, Bernard, Rita and Patrick, and destroyed the fishing property and provisions of most of Lord Cove's fishers. Lord's Cove is an ideal birdwatching area with established colonies of Leach's storm-petrel and Manx shearwater nearby at Middle Lawn Island. The colony of Manx shearwaters near "the Cove" is the only known North American colony of the burrowing seabird.
