Sandro Calvesi
Alessandro "Sandro" Calvesi (5 September 1913 – 20 November 1980) was an Italian Athletics (sport), athletics coach. Biography Married to 1936 and 1948 Olympian Gabre Gabric, among the people he coached was the Italian hurdler Eddy Ottoz, after became his son-in-law, married to his daughter Lyana Calvesi. Ottoz set the Italian records in athletics, Italian national record in the 110 metres hurdles while winning the bronze medal at the Athletics at the 1968 Summer Olympics – Men's 110 metres hurdles, 1968 Olympics and was the dominant European hurdler of the 1960s. Guy Drut
Guy Drut (born 6 December 1950) is an Olympic champion and politician who won gold at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal in the 110 m hurdles. In 1996, he became a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Biography Sports career Born in Oignies, Pas-de-Calais, France, Drut captured the silver medal in the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, finishing behind the American Rod Milburn. In the European Championship of 1974 Drut came a comfortable first. Laurent Ottoz (born 10 April 1970) is an Italian hurdling, hurdler. He won four medals, at senior level, at International athletics championships and games, international athletics competitions. Career His personal best time was 13.42 seconds, achieved in August 1994 in Berlin. This is a former Italian record, which in turn belonged to his father Eddy Ottoz with 13.46 seconds. The Italian record currently belongs to Emanuele Abate with 13.28 seconds. After this he changed event to the 400 metres hurdles. His personal best time is 48.52 seconds, and in Italy only Fabrizio Mori has run the distance faster. Ottoz Family
The Ottoz family is a sporting family consisting of many athletes, one of whom became a manager in the world of athletics. Sandro Calvesi (1913–1980), the '' capostipite'' of the Calvesi family, coached the Italian hurdler Eddy Ottoz, who afterwards became his son-in-law through his marriage with Lyana Calvesi. Masters athletics is a class of the sport of athletics for athletes of over 35 years of age. The events include track and field, road running and cross country running. Competitors are bracketed into five-year age groups (which promotes fair competition). For international events the first age group is 35 to 39. 400 Metres Hurdles
The 400 metres hurdles is a track and field hurdling event. The event has been on the Olympic athletics programme since 1900 for men and since 1984 for women. On a standard outdoor track, 400 metres is the length of the inside lane, once around the stadium. Runners stay in their lanes the entire way after starting out of the blocks and must clear ten hurdles that are evenly spaced around the track. The hurdles are positioned and weighted so that they fall forward if bumped into with sufficient force, to prevent injury to the runners. Although there is no longer any penalty for knocking hurdles over, runners prefer to clear them cleanly, as touching them during the race slows runners down. The best male athletes can run the 400 m hurdles in a time of around 46 seconds, while the very best female athletes achieve a time of around 51 seconds. The Men's 110 metres hurdles event at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal was held on July 26, 1976, and on July 28, 1976. Twenty-four athletes from 17 nations competed. The maximum number of athletes per nation had been set at 3 since the 1930 Olympic Congress. The event was won by Guy Drut of France, the sixth man to win two medals in the event (silver in 1972). It was France's first championship in the men's high hurdles, and only the third time the event was won by a hurdler not from the United States.
