Sandro Biasotti
Sandro Biasotti (born 2 July 1948) is an Italian entrepreneur and politician, former President of Liguria from 2000 to 2005. Biography Biasotti is the son of an entrepreneur active in the field of freight transport and built an entrepreneurial group of the sector, with fifteen companies throughout Italy. In 1998, Biasotti decided to sell his activities to engage his entrepreneurial energies in the field of car dealerships. President of Liguria Biasotti entered into politics when he ran for the office of President of Liguria during the 2000 regional election, backed by the House of Freedoms coalition. In April 2000, Biasotti is elected President of Liguria. Pesto () is a sauce that traditionally consists of crushed garlic, European pine nuts, coarse salt, basil leaves, and hard cheese such as Parmigiano-Reggiano (also known as Parmesan cheese) or Pecorino Sardo (cheese made from sheep's milk), all blended with olive oil. It originated in Genoa, the capital city of Liguria, Italy. Etymology ''Pesto alla Genovese'' (in English: ''Genoese Pesto''); () refers to the original dish. The name pesto is the past participle of the Genoese verb (Italian: ), which means "to pound," "to crush," in reference to the original method of preparation. According to tradition, the ingredients are "crushed" or ground in a marble mortar through a circular motion of a wooden pestle. This same Latin root, through Old French, also gave rise to the English noun ''pestle''. 2014 European Parliament Election In Italy
The 2014 European Parliament election in Italy took place on 25 May 2014. Italy elected 73 MEPs out of 751 European Parliament seats. The governing Democratic Party (PD) won the election with 40.8% of the vote and 31 seats, followed by the Five Star Movement (21.2% and 17 seats) and Forza Italia (16.8% and 13 seats). As a result, the PD was the second largest national party in the European Parliament by number of seats after the German CDU/CSU and the largest among the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats. The PD's score was also the best result for an Italian party in a nationwide election since the 1958 general election, when the Christian Democracy won 42.4% of the vote. Giovanni Toti
Giovanni Toti (born 7 September 1968) is an Italian journalist and politician, who has been President of Liguria since June 2015. Toti was also elected to the European Parliament, following the 2014 European Parliament election. Biography Born in Viareggio in 1968, Toti grew up in Massa Carrara where the family ran a hotel, and he has lived for many years with his family and parents in Bocca di Magra, Ameglia, in the province of La Spezia, Liguria. He graduated in political science from the University of Milan. He is married to the journalist Siria Magri. During the 1980s he was a member of the youth wing of the Italian Socialist Party, led at the time by Bettino Craxi, Prime Minister from 1983 to 1987, later condemned for corruption, in the trial ''Mani Pulite''. Radio Radicale is the official radio station of the Italian Radical Party. Founded in 1976 as part of the ''Radio libere'' ("Free Radio”) movement, it has no commercial advertisements and is partly funded by the party, with support from the Italian government as part of an agreement for the broadcasting of Parliamentary sessions. The Ligurian regional election of 2010 took place on 28–29 March 2010. The incumbent President Claudio Burlando of the centre-left Democratic Party (PD) faced Sandro Biasotti, backed by The People of Freedom (PdL) and Northern League Liguria. Biasotti was President of the Region from 2000 to 2005, when he was defeated by Burlando.
