Sandra Márjá West
Sandra Márjá West (born 11 October 1990) is a Norwegian Sámi people, Sami politician and festival manager of Riddu Riđđu. Career West has a bachelor's degree in Russian studies from the University of Tromsø. She has studied at the Samernas Education Center in Jokkmokk, Sweden. She was associated with Sámi University of Applied Sciences in the period 2012–2013. In 2013, she was elected as a Sami representative for the Norwegian Sámi Association in the Gáisi constituency, and re-elected in 2017. In that same year, she became a member of the Sami Parliamentary Council. West served as project manager for Indigenous Youth Gathering (IYG) at Riddu Riđđu. From 2009, she was the Deputy member of Riddu Riđđu Searvi, and from 2013, she was the Deputy member of the Riddu Riđđu Festival. Sámi People
The Sámi ( ; also spelled Sami or Saami) are a Finno-Ugric languages#Speakers, Finno-Ugric-speaking people inhabiting the region of Sápmi (formerly known as Lapland), which today encompasses large northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and of the Murmansk Oblast, Russia, most of the Kola Peninsula in particular. Riddu Riđđu
Riddu Riđđu is an annual Sámi music and culture festival held in Olmmáivággi (Manndalen) in the Gáivuotna (Kåfjord) municipality in Norway. The goal of the festival is to bring forward both Sámi culture and that of other indigenous peoples. Translated to English, the name of the festival is "small storm at the coast". The festival has permanent support from the Ministry of Culture and Church Affairs, the Sámi parliament, Troms county and Kåfjord municipality. Riddu Riđđu includes concerts, seminars, performances, youth camp, stage art, literature, children's program, Northern People's program, youth camp, film program, courses (workshops), art exhibition, market (bazaar), indigenous houses and much more. Jokkmokk
Jokkmokk (; smj, Jåhkåmåhkke or ; se, Dálvvadis; fi, Jokimukka) is a locality and the seat of Jokkmokk Municipality in Norrbotten County, province of Lapland, Sweden, with 2,786 inhabitants in 2010. The Lule Sami name of the place (composed of the individual words and ) means "River's Curve," due to the meandering river that runs through it. As in other towns in Lapland, the Swedish language is dominant at an official level in Jokkmokk in modern times. The settlement is just north of the Arctic Circle. Talvatissjön is located at the southern part of Jokkmokk. Sámi University of Applied Sciences ( se, Sámi allaskuvla, no, Samisk høgskole) is a university that is located in the village of Kautokeino in Kautokeino Municipality in Finnmark county, Norway. It was established in 1989 and has about 200 students and 110 faculty, technical and administrative staff. It is one of 25 Norwegian state university colleges. Since 2009 it has been located at the campus complex of Diehtosiida. Sámi University of Applied Sciences has a national responsibility for Sámi higher education, including education within teaching and journalism. The college attempts to develop its syllabi on the basis of Sámi needs, and attempts to develop Sámi as an academic language. The college has students from all four countries covered by Sápmi. Norwegian Sámi Association
The Norwegian Sámi Association ( se, Norgga Sámiid Riikasearvi , no, Norske Samers Riksforbund), also known as NSR, is the largest Sámi people, Sámi organization in Norway. The association was founded in 1968. Purpose The NSR actively runs cultural, social, and informational work through local groups and Sámi associations. In total, 24 Sámi associations are attached to the NSR. The NSR is also active politically, running for elections in ''Sametinget'' (the Sámi Parliament of Norway) and sending delegates to the Sámi Council. The NSR was founded in 1968, so it has been contributing to the development of Sámi society and culture since before the Sámi Parliament was established.
