Sand is a granular material composed of finely divided mineral particles. Sand has various compositions but is defined by its grain size. Sand grains are smaller than gravel and coarser than silt. Sand can also refer to a textural class of soil or soil type; i.e., a soil containing more than 85 percent sand-sized particles by mass. Daniel Sandford (journalist)
Daniel Sandford is an English TV journalist. Early life and education Sandford was born in 1965-66 in Oxford. His family moved to Ethiopia when he was 3 and he received his primary education there at the English School, which had been founded by his grandmother some 20 years earlier. The family returned to the UK after the 1974 Ethiopian revolution and he received his secondary education at Magdalen College School, an independent school for boys in Oxford, and sang as a chorister in the choir of Magdalen College, Oxford. He studied physics and electronics at the University of Southampton, graduating in 1988. Career From January 1989 to May 1998, Sandford worked at ITN, where his roles included that of Home Affairs Producer, Africa Producer and General Reporter. Kenneth Sandford
Kenneth Sandford (28 June 1924 – 19 September 2004) was an English singer and actor, best known for his performances in baritone roles of the Savoy Operas of Gilbert and Sullivan. After service the Royal Air Force during World War II, Sandford turned away from a career in art and studied singing. He performed in musical theatre in the West End and on tour between 1950 and 1956, including 800 performances starring in a revue called ''Jokers Wild'' with The Crazy Gang. He also began a concert career. In 1957, he was engaged by the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company and immediately began to perform eight principal roles in repertory, including Pooh-Bah in ''The Mikado''. He remained with the company for 25 years until it closed, also making about twenty recordings with the company, and several recordings for Reader's Digest and others. John Sandford, born John Roswell Camp (born February 23, 1944), is an American ''New York Times'' best-selling author, novelist, a former journalist and recipient of the Pulitzer Prize. Early life Camp was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Anne Agnes (Barron) and Roswell Sandford Camp. His mother's family was German and Lithuanian. He received a bachelor's degree in American history and literature and a master's in journalism, both from the University of Iowa. From 1971 to 1978, Camp wrote for ''The Miami Herald''. In 1978, he moved to Minneapolis and started writing for ''The Saint Paul Pioneer Press'' as a features reporter; in 1980 he became a daily columnist. John De Sandford
John de Sandford (died 2 October 1294) was Archbishop of Dublin. He was brother of Fulk Basset, archbishop of Dublin, and hence nephew of Sir Philip Basset (d. 1271), the justiciar, and of Fulk Basset, Bishop of London from 1241 until his death in 1259, a prelate who was prominent during the troubles of Henry III's reign. He first appears as an official of Henry III in Ireland and of Edward I in both England and Ireland; he came to Ireland as his brother's vicar general and was made rector of Maynooth. Christopher Jeremy Sandford (5 December 1930 – 12 May 2003) was an English television screenwriter who came to prominence in 1966 with ''Cathy Come Home'', his controversial entry in BBC1's ''The Wednesday Play'' anthology strand, which was directed by Ken Loach. Gladys Sandford
Gladys Sandford (née Coates, 4 March 1891 – 24 October 1971) was an Australian-New Zealand pioneering driver and aviator. She was the first woman in New Zealand to earn a pilot's licence. Early life Sandford was born at Summer Hill, Sydney, to Oswald Coates and Valerie Albine, née Lassau. Sandford's father had immigrated from England, and her mother was from South Australia. By 1896 the family had moved to Auckland, New Zealand. Adult life Sandford became a school teacher and taught at Napier, in New Zealand's North Island. She married William Henning, a motor salesman, in 1912, and worked with him in their car sales business, learning about cars and engines as she worked. Francis Richard John Sandford, 1st Baron Sandford, (14 May 1824 – 31 December 1893), known as Sir Francis Sandford between 1863 and 1891, was a British civil servant.
