Sandbore Caye Light
Sandbore Caye lighthouse is a lighthouse located at the north end of the Lighthouse Reef at from Belize City, Belize. History The station on Sandbore Caye was established in 1886 building the first lighthouse formed by a skeletal tower high replaced in 1931 with a similar one higher. The current light has a skeletal square truncated tower with balcony and a focal height of ; it emits a white flash every 10 seconds. Sandbore Caye is a small island with an area of off the coast of Belize. It is the northernmost as well as easternmost islet of Lighthouse Reef Atoll, and at the same time the easternmost landmass of the state of Belize. It has a lighthouse occupied by a keeper and his family. Lighthouse Reef
Lighthouse Reef is an atoll in the Caribbean Sea, the easternmost part of the Belize Barrier Reef and one of its three atolls, the other two being Turneffe Atoll and Glover's Reef. Lighthouse Reef is located about southeast of Belize City. The atoll is of oblong shape, approximately long from north to south, and about wide. It forms a shallow sandy lagoon with an area of and a depth between deep. The reef is one of the best developed and healthiest reefs in the Caribbean, "with an emergent fringing reef, a sloping fore reef with a coral rimmed shelf edge, vertical coral walls, and numerous patch reefs in the shallow central lagoon." Belize City
Belize City is the largest city in Belize and was once the capital of the former British Honduras. According to the 2010 census, Belize City has a population of 57,169 people in 16,162 households. It is at the mouth of the Haulover Creek, which is a distributary of the Belize River.
