Sand Lake, Michigan
Sand Lake is a village in Kent County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 522 at the 2020 census. History The village of Sand Lake was founded in 1869 in northern Kent County and has long served as a bedroom community about northeast of the city of Grand Rapids. In 2009, the village had the highest tax rates of the five villages in Kent County, and some residents petitioned for a vote to have the village disincorporated in order to lower taxes. This proposal was defeated, and Sand Lake remains an incorporated village. Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the village has a total area of , of which is land and (4.05%) is water. Demographics 2010 census As of the census of 2010, there were 500 people, 188 households, and 116 families living in the village. The population density was 625 per square mile. Sand Lake National Wildlife Refuge
Sand Lake National Wildlife Refuge is located in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of South Dakota and is administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Created in 1935, it is a wetlands of international importance and a Globally Important Bird Area. Over 260 bird species are found in the refuge, including many migratory bird species and the world's largest breeding colony of Franklin's gulls. History and management In the late 1880s, the Sand Lake area was settled by farmers. Their agricultural practices depleted wildlife habitat and caused a severe decline in waterfowl numbers. Sibley County is a county in the South Central part of the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 14,836. Its county seat is Gaylord. Sibley County was part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul- Bloomington, MN- WI Metropolitan Statistical Area from 2013 to September 2018. History The county was created on March 5, 1853. It was named for Henry Hastings Sibley. The county seat was first established at Henderson. A courthouse was built there and placed into service in 1879. Nicollet County is a county in the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 34,454. Its county seat is St. Peter. Nicollet County is part of the Mankato– North Mankato, MN Metropolitan Statistical Area. History In 1849 the Minnesota Territory legislature defined the boundaries of nine future counties. One of those, Dakota, contained the area north of the Minnesota River where it altered its flow from southeast to northeast.
