Sanborn is a hamlet (and census-designated place, population: 1,645 in 2010 census) in the Towns of Cambria, Lewiston, and Wheatfield, in Niagara County, New York, United States, on the southern side of the intersection of New York State Route 429 and New York State Route 31. Originally called South Pekin after the formerly thriving hamlet of Pekin to the north, Sanborn was renamed in 1866 after Ebenezer Sanborn. The ZIP code for Sanborn is 14132. Niagara County Community College (NCCC) is a public community college in Sanborn, New York, in Niagara County. Nellie Moyer Budd (February 20, 1860 - November 28, 1944) was an American music teacher. Trained at the New England Conservatory of Music, she served for many years as the head of the music department at Windom College, Montevideo, Minnesota. Early life and education Cornelia (nickname, "Nellie") Margaret Moyer was born in Sanborn, Niagara County, New York, February 20, 1860. Her father, Amos F. Moyer, was a descendant of the Moyer family of Central New York; her mother, Cornelia V. Rose, was a descendant from Robert Rose who came to Wethersfield, Connecticut, in 1634. Niagara Escarpment
The Niagara Escarpment is a long escarpment, or cuesta, in Canada and the United States that runs predominantly east–west from New York through Ontario, Michigan, Wisconsin, and into Illinois. The escarpment is most famous as the cliff over which the Niagara River plunges at Niagara Falls, for which it is named. The escarpment is a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. The reserve has the oldest forest ecosystem and trees in eastern North America. The escarpment is not a fault line but the result of unequal erosion. It is composed of an outcrop belt of the Lockport Formation of Silurian age, and is similar to the Onondaga Formation, which runs in a parallel outcrop belt just to the south, through western New York and southern Ontario. New York State Route 31
New York State Route 31 (NY 31) is a state highway that extends for across western and central New York in the United States. The western terminus of the route is at an intersection with NY 104 in the city of Niagara Falls. Its eastern terminus is at a traffic circle with NY 26 in Vernon Center, a hamlet within the town of Vernon. Over its routing, NY 31 spans 10 counties and indirectly connects three major urban areas in Upstate New York: Buffalo–Niagara Falls, Rochester, and Syracuse. New York State Route 429
New York State Route 429 (NY 429) is a north–south state highway located entirely within Niagara County, New York, in the United States. It extends for from an intersection with NY 265 and NY 384 in North Tonawanda to a junction with NY 104 ( Ridge Road) on the border between the towns of Cambria and Lewiston. Although it is relatively minor in length, the route is regionally important nonetheless as it connects North Tonawanda to some of the county's interior regions. About midway between North Tonawanda and Ridge Road, NY 429 serves the hamlet of Sanborn, where it briefly overlaps with NY 31. At Pekin, a community situated between Sanborn and NY 104, NY 429 descends the Niagara Escarpment.
