The ''San Zaccaria Altarpiece'' (also called ''Madonna Enthroned with Child and Saints'') is a painting by the Italian Renaissance painter Giovanni Bellini, executed in 1505 and located in the church of San Zaccaria, Venice. History The work was mentioned in 1648 by writer and painter Carlo Ridolfi as a large panel commissioned in memory of Venetian politician and diplomat Pietro Cappello; he described it as "one of the most beautiful and delicate by the artist". Giovanni Bellini
Giovanni Bellini (; c. 1430 – 26 November 1516) was an Italian Renaissance painter, probably the best known of the Bellini family of Venetian painters. ''San Zaccaria, Venice'' is a color photograph taken by German photographer Thomas Struth, in 1995. The photograph was taken inside the San Zaccaria church in Venice, and is part of his series ''Museum Photographs,'' dedicated to the interior of several museums and monuments across the world. It has a ten prints edition. History and description Struth became interested by the work of the Italian painter Giovanni Bellini, due to his conexion to the Scottish art historian Giles Robertson, who published a monograph on him, in 1968, and who had been the subject of two of his portraits. Struth took interest in the current painting, the ''San Zaccaria Altarpiece'' or ''Sacra Conversazione'', after this book and also after visiting Venice, in 1990. ''Santa Cristina al Tiverone Altarpiece'' is an oil-on-panel painting by the Italian Renaissance painter Lorenzo Lotto, executed around 1504–1506. It is still housed in its original location, the parish church of Santa Cristina in Quinto di Treviso, a ''frazione'' of Treviso, northern Italy. Measuring 90x179 cm ( lunette) and 177x162 cm (central panel), it is signed "Laurentius / Lotus / P. nxit at the base of the throne. Thomas Struth
Thomas Struth (born 11 October 1954) is a German photographer who is best known for his ''Museum Photographs'' series, family portraits and black and white photographs of the streets of Düsseldorf and New York taken in the 1970s. Struth lives and works in Berlin and New York. Early life and education Born to ceramic potter Gisela Struth and bank director Heinrich Struth in Geldern, Germany, Struth trained at the Düsseldorf Academy from 1973 until 1980 where he initially studied painting under Peter Kleemann and, from 1974, Gerhard Richter. Increasingly drawn to photography and with Richter's support, Struth, along with Candida Höfer, Axel Hütte, and Roswitha Ronkholz, joined the first year of the new photography class run by Bernd and Hilla Becher, in 1976. San Zeno Altarpiece
The ''San Zeno Altarpiece'' is a triptych by the Italian Renaissance painter Andrea Mantegna, from c. 1457–1460. It is located in the Basilica di San Zeno, the main church of Verona. The three predellas, stripped by the French in 1797 along with the main picture (restored to Verona in 1815), have been replaced by copies. The originals are in the Louvre (''Crucifixion'') and in the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Tours (''Resurrection'' and ''Agony in the Garden''). The work was commissioned by the Abbot Gregorio Correr. In the centre is the Madonna enthroned with the Child, portrayed according to the Byzantine iconography of the Victorious Madonna and surrounded by chanting angels.
