San Vicente Ferrer Church (Calulut)
The Church of San Vicente Ferrer is located in Calulut, City of San Fernando, Pampanga, Philippines. It was established as a parish in 1914. Originally, it encompassed 28 barangays from as far as Anao in Mexico, Pampanga, Mexico to the east, Dolores, Pampanga, Dolores to the south, Telabastagan to the north and a number of villages of San Fernando on the west side along what is now known as McArthur Highway. History At the time of its canonical erection in 1914, the parish was under the jurisdiction of the Archbishop of Manila, Archdiocese of Manila. However, the growing number of the faithful led to the establishment of more parishes that were established by Archbishop Miguel O’Doherty. These were St. Joseph Parish in Brgy. Malino, Mexico in 1941 and Our Lady of Remedies Parish in Brgy. Baliti in 1943, leaving eight barangays under the parish. The San Vicente Ferrer Parish Church ( Tagalog: ''Simbahan ng Parokya ni San Vicente Ferrer''; Spanish: ''Iglesia Parroquial de San Vicente Ferrer''), commonly referred to as Dupax Church or Dupax del Sur Church, is an 18th-century Baroque church located at Brgy. Dopaj, Dupax del Sur, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines. The parish church, under the advocation of Saint Vincent Ferrer, is under the jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bayombong. The church complex has been declared a National Cultural Treasure by the National Museum of the Philippines in July 2001. Parish history Dupax started as a mission by the Dominican Priests to convert the native group called Isinays into Christianity at around 1602. The Dominicans pushed through with the evangelization of the region until 1704 when the missions were turned over to the Augustinians because of lack of personnel. The Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Vincent Ferrer (commonly known as ''Leganes Church'') is a neoclassical church dedicated to Saint Vincent Ferrer in Leganes, Iloilo, Philippines under the Archdiocese of Jaro. Its current structure is a result of the numerous restoration efforts which was necessity because of both man-made and natural disasters. History The current San Vicente Ferrer Church was a product of repairs and reconstructions. The first was completed in 1889 under the patronage of Father Eladio Zamora using the materials of ''tabigue'', bamboo and brickwork. It replaced the old chapel which was constructed out of local indigenous materials. The adjoining convent was made out of local wood while the adjacent cemetery was bordered by a bamboo fence. Strong winds and rain damaged the church and rendered the convent useless during the typhoon that happened on May 10, 1896. Repairs were initiated by Father Fulgencio Rodriguez on the church.
