San Salvo
San Salvo ( Abruzzese: ') is a ''comune'' and town in the Province of Chieti in the Abruzzo region of Italy. It is the last Abruzzo town on the Adriatic coast before entering the Molise Region. San Salvo is divided into two major urban areas: San Salvo city and San Salvo Marina. On the top of its seaside touristic and agricultural resources, San Salvo has a large industrial park which hosts glass-related business organizations. Seaside The seaside of San Salvo, called San Salvo Marina, is characterized by long sandy beaches and shallow waters. Festival and traditions Every year from 26 until 28 April, San Salvo hosts the "San Vitale Festival". It is a traditional city festival dedicated to the celebration of Saint Vitale. The Adriatic Sea () is a body of water separating the Italian Peninsula from the Balkan Peninsula. Giardino Botanico Mediterraneo
The Giardino Botanico Mediterraneo (10 hectares) is a botanical garden located along the Adriatic Sea about 2 kilometers north of San Salvo, Province of Chieti, Abruzzo, Italy. It is open Monday through Friday in the warmer months; an admission fee is charged. The garden was established in 2001 by the Municipality of San Salvo to recreate and conserve a strip of typical Adriatic sand dunes, and to preserve plant species at risk of extinction. It currently contains about 300 species. The total site occupies 25 hectares, of which 15 are within the sea itself. Santi Vito E Salvo
The Abbey of Santi Vito e Salvo (Italian: ''Abbazia dei Santi Vito e Salvo'') was a Cistercian monastery located in San Salvo, Province of Chieti, Italy. History It was founded in 1247 by the mother abbey Santa Maria della Ferraria in Campania, of the line of Abbey of Clairvaux. At the beginnings, the location selected for the abbey was in a swampy area close to San Salvo, but the harsh living conditions pushed the monks to move inside the town. The abbey developed in the area nowadays known as "il quadrilatero", but it was abandoned in 1453 after an attack launched by the Turks. Architecture The structures of the abbey are completely lost, with new buildings constructed around the squared area of the original closter. The new church of San Giuseppe was built in place of the previous one: the only remains of the original building are two lancet windows on the side of the church. Taralli are toroidal Italian snack foods, common in the southern half of the Italian Peninsula.
