Towards the 12th century the church was rebuilt and affiliated with a Vallombrosan Benedictine order monastery. It then became a convent for nuns. The Abbess Giovanna Sanvitale commissioned the choir from Marco Antonio Zucchi in 1512. The sacristy corridor, a fragment of a capital and a stone door with Romanesque architecture decorations date to this period. Renaissance Architecture
Renaissance architecture is the European architecture of the period between the early 15th and early 16th centuries in different regions, demonstrating a conscious revival and development of certain elements of Ancient Greece, ancient Greek and Ancient Rome, Roman thought and material culture. Stylistically, Renaissance architecture followed Gothic architecture and was succeeded by Baroque architecture. Pier Antonio Bernabei (1570–1630) was an Italian painter also known as Della Casa. Biography A native of Parma, Pier Antonio Bernabei was a follower of the style of Correggio. Among his best-known works is a frescoed view of ''Paradise'' on the cupola of Santa Maria del Quartiere in Parma. Another renowned fresco is the ''Assumption'' for a chapel at the church of San Martino at Traversetolo. Giovanni Lanfranco (26 January 1582 – 30 November 1647) was an Italian painter of the Baroque period. Biography Giovanni Gaspare Lanfranco was born in Parma, the third son of Stefano and Cornelia Lanfranchi, and was placed as a page in the household of Count Orazio Scotti. His talent for drawing allowed him to begin an apprenticeship with the Bolognese artist Agostino Carracci, brother of Annibale Carracci, working alongside fellow Parmese Sisto Badalocchio in the local Farnese palaces.
