San Michele, Cremona
San Michele is a Romanesque-style, Roman Catholic church located in the city of Cremona, region of Lombardy, Italy. History According to tradition, it would have been built by the Lombards, who venerated the archangel St Michael, although its existence is documented from the 8th century, prior to Lombard rule of Cremona. In the 11th century a new basilica was built. In the 13th century it received a new campanile (belfry), and the naves were vaulted with pointed arches. In the crypt are elements dating to the early Middle Ages crypt, one of which attributed to the Lombard age. The apse, as well as the other church of San Vincenzo in Cremona, resembles that of the Nonantola Abbey. The church includes a statue portraying "St Michael Subjugating the Beast" and located to the right of the high altar. San Michele Arcangelo is the parish church in the town of Verghereto, in the province of Forlì-Cesena, region of Emilia Romagna, Italy. History A church of this name was originally attached to a rural Camaldolese monastery. When this collapsed, the church was moved to an equally ancient small ''Oratorio di Sant'Antonio'', outside of the city walls. By 1865, a new church was commissioned and in 1884, construction began of the present church on Via Casentinese, inside the city center. San Michele in Isola is a Roman Catholic church, located on the Isola di San Michele, a small islet sited between Venice and Murano, which once sheltered a Camaldolese monastery ( it, Monastero di S. The Basilica of San Michele Maggiore is a Roman Catholic church in Pavia, region of Lombardy, Italy. The building, dating to the 11-12th centuries, is a well-preserved example of the Lombard- Romanesque style. San Michele in Foro is a Roman Catholic basilica church in Lucca, Tuscany, central Italy, built over the ancient Roman forum.
