San Martino Di Castagnolo Minore, Bentivoglio
San Martino di Castagnolo Minore or of Castaniolo Minore is a Roman Catholic parish church located in the town of Bentivolgio in the Province of Bologna, Italy. A large chestnut tree near the site gave name to two parish churches, the one on higher ground next to Castel Maggiore, and this one as Minore. The church is dedicated to the Bishop Martin of Tours. A church on the site might have been present by the 10th century, and is documented by the late 12th century, through a bull of Pope Urban III in 1187. The present church was built in the 1500s. In the 1830s, rebuilding restored the belltower and facade, and the interior was redecorated with nave frescoes by Gaetano Caponeri; and chapel frescoes by Luigi Biondi is a fictional character featured in video games and related media released by Nintendo. Bentivoglio ( Northern Bolognese: or ) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Bologna in the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna, located about northeast of Bologna. Castel Maggiore ( Bolognese: ) is an Italian commune in the Metropolitan City of Bologna, Emilia-Romagna, central Italy, located north of the centre of Bologna. Though its name recalls a translation like ''Great Castle'', the name is actually derived from the earlier name ''Castaniolo Maggiore'', which means "Bigger Chestnut Tree", in relation to another nearby village still today named "Castagnolino", meaning "Small Chestnut Tree". Martin of Tours ( la, Sanctus Martinus Turonensis; 316/336 – 8 November 397), also known as Martin the Merciful, was the third bishop of Tours. Pope Urban III ( la, Urbanus III; died 20 October 1187), born Uberto Crivelli, reigned from 25 November 1185 to his death in 1187. Early career Crivelli was born in Cuggiono, Italy as the son of Guala Crivelli and had four brothers: Pietro, Domenico, Pastore and Guala. It is often said that the future Pope Celestine IV was the son of Urban's sister, but this claim is without foundation. He studied in Bologna. In 1173, Crivelli was made a cardinal by Pope Alexander III. His original title is unknown, but he opted to be the Cardinal-Priest of San Lorenzo in Lucina in 1182.
