San Mamés Stadium (1913)
San Mamés Stadium ( es, Estadio San Mamés ; also known as ''La Catedral'' , "The Cathedral"), was a football stadium in Bilbao, Biscay, Spain. The stadium was the home of Athletic Bilbao, known as ''Los Leones de San Mamés''-''Bilboko lehoiak'' (The Lions of San Mamés). They are known as ''Los Leones'' because their stadium was built near a church called ''San Mamés'' (Saint Mammes). Mammes was an early Christian, born in A.D. 259, who was thrown to the lions by the Romans. Santiago Cathedral ( es, Catedral de Santiago; eu, Donejakue Katedrala) is a Roman Catholic church in the city of Bilbao. The temple was originally built during the 14th–15th centuries as Bilbao's main parish church, and was only declared cathedral in 1950 when the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bilbao was officially created. Its origins probably date to well before the foundation of the city in 1300, when Bilbao was little more than a small enclave of fishermen. The temple is consecrated in honor of the apostle Saint James the Great (''Santiago in Spanish''), by virtue of being a point of transit for the pilgrims that followed the Northern branch of the Way of Saint James. Pichichi (footballer)
Rafael Moreno Aranzadi (23 May 1892 – 1 March 1922), known as Pichichi, was a Spanish footballer who played as a forward. He played for Athletic Bilbao during the 1910s and 1920s. He received his nickname because of his frail build. Club career Born in Bilbao, Biscay, Pichichi played in his first Copa del Rey final in March 1913 as Athletic Bilbao, his sole club, lost 1–0 against Racing Club de Irún. Later the same year, on 21 August, the same opponents, now renamed Real Unión, were invited to play the inaugural game at San Mamés Stadium, and he scored the very first goal at the ground; two months later, he also scored the first goal at Real Sociedad's new Atotxa Stadium in the opening fixture for that venue.
