San Juan Del Obispo
San Juan del Obispo is a small village (''pueblo'') in Guatemala. It is located in the department of Sacatepéquez, close to the departmental capital, Antigua Guatemala. Sacatepéquez
Sacatepéquez () was a city in Guatemala from November 21, 1542 until July 29, 1773 when it was destroyed by the Santa Marta earthquake. Sacatepéquez means ''grasshill'' and gave its name to the Sacatepéquez Department. Francisco Marroquín
Francisco Marroquín (1499 – April 18, 1563) was the first bishop of Guatemala, ''(in Latin)'' translator of Central American languages and provisional Governor of Guatemala. Biography Marroquín was born near Santander, Spain. He studied philosophy and theology in Osuna.Recinos 1952, 1986, p. 127. After entering the priesthood, Marroquín became a professor at the University of Osuna where he met Bishop García de Loaisa, an adviser to Emperor Charles V. Marroquín became a priest in the Spanish royal court. In 1528 the conquistador Pedro de Alvarado, Governor of Guatemala, was in Spain and met Marroquín; he convinced the priest to accompany him back to Guatemala. José Luis Álvarez (3 June 1917 Guatemala, Guatemala – 5 February 2012 Antigua Guatemala) was a Guatemalan artist who, from 1976 until his death, lived and painted in Antigua, Guatemala, Antigua. He became known as the one of the best landscape artists from Guatemala, and was part of a generation of prolific artists who, as exponents of national art, defined the Guatemalan School.
