San Juan F.C. is a Association football, football club located in Quimistán, Honduras, that competes in the Honduran Liga Nacional de Ascenso, Liga de Ascenso, the second tier of the Honduran football league system. History Known as ''The People's Team'', the club was founded in October 1965 as ''San Juancito'' by Abelardo Castillo in Quimistán, Santa Bárbara Department, Honduras, Santa Bárbara. Their first rivalry at that time was against Estrellita (football club), Estrellita, which played their home games at the Catholic Church Plaza. Meanwhile, ''San Juancito'' played at the Central Plaza. One day, Raúl O'connor, the first president of ''San Juancito'', suggested to merge these two and decided to rename the new club as San Juan Fútbol Club, as a tribute to the town's Patron saint. Liga Mayor de Honduras (Honduran Major League) is the third division of football in Honduras. It is composed of separate departmental leagues. The league is divided into two regions, North and South. Both regions are further divided into two groups (four total). Promotion to Liga de Ascenso de Honduras is decided by a promotion final in each region (one in the North and one in the South). Honduran Cup
The Honduran Cup was the top knock-out Association football, football tournament in Honduras. The first tournament was played in 1968 Honduran Cup, 1968, four years later the second tournament took the name ''Copa Presidente'' ( en, President's Cup) in honor of Dr. Ramón Ernesto Cruz Uclés, Ramón Cruz; later, General Oswaldo López Arellano, Oswaldo López changed the name and called it ''Copa Jefe de Estado'' ( en, Head of State Cup). Twenty years later the third tournament was played. From 1992 to 1994, the Cup tournament was played as a separate tournament from the league (played from June to August). From 1995 to 1999, the winner of the first stage of the league tournament was declared Cup champions. In 2015, the tournament was yet again re-launched and re-branded as ''Copa Presidente''. 2018 Honduran Cup
The 2018 Honduran Cup was the 13th edition of the Honduran Cup and the fourth as Copa Presidente. The tournament was announced on 13 April 2018. The cup was contested by 64 teams from the top 3 divisions. There were a total of 10 teams from Liga Nacional (1st division), 28 from Liga de Ascenso (2nd division) and 26 from Liga Mayor (3rd division). C.D. Marathón were the defending champions. Platense F.C. obtained their third title after beating 2–1 Real C.D. España in the final and will face the league winners in the 2019 Honduran Supercup. 2017 Honduran Cup
The 2017 Honduran Cup was the 12th edition of the Honduran Cup and the third as Copa Presidente. The cup is a creation of the Honduran government funded by money allocated to national security fund. Its purpose is to support the growth of sport to detract the youth from vices and to promote national tourism for rural towns. The cup was contested by 64 teams from the top 3 divisions of the country. There were a total of 10 teams from Liga Nacional (1st division), 27 from Liga de Ascenso (2nd division) and 27 from Liga Mayor (3rd division). Unlike the previous tournament which covered two calendar years, this edition was played in 2017 only. Juticalpa were the defending champions, but they were eliminated in the round of 16 by Deportes Savio. The final was held at Estadio Juan Ramón Brevé Vargas in Juticalpa, Olancho. C.D.
