San Jacinto (song)
"San Jacinto" is a song written and performed by the English rock musician Peter Gabriel. Released in 1982, it is the second track off his fourth self-titled album. Excerpts of the song’s coda were repurposed for "Powerhouse at the Foot of the Mountain" on Gabriel's 1985 '' Birdy'' soundtrack album. He also re-recorded "San Jacinto" with an orchestra on his '' New Blood'' album in 2011. A portion of the song also appeared in ''Starship'', a 1984 science fiction film directed by Roger Christian. Background Gabriel wrote the song after an encounter with an Apache man looking for a ride back to his flat. The Apache man was employed at the same hotel Gabriel and his band were staying at and recently learned that his flat had burned down. Upon hearing this, Gabriel agreed to transport the Apache man to his destination. Peter Brian Gabriel (born 13 February 1950) is an English musician, singer, songwriter, record producer, and activist. He rose to fame as the original lead singer of the progressive rock band Genesis. After leaving Genesis in 1975, he launched a successful solo career with "Solsbury Hill" as his first single. Sitting Bull ( lkt, Tȟatȟáŋka Íyotake ; December 15, 1890) was a Hunkpapa Lakota leader who led his people during years of resistance against United States government policies. He was killed by Indian agency police on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation during an attempt to arrest him, at a time when authorities feared that he would join the Ghost Dance movement. ''Music for 18 Musicians'' is a work of minimalist music composed by Steve Reich during 1974–1976. Its world premiere was on April 24, 1976, at The Town Hall in New York City. Following this, a recording of the piece was released by ECM New Series in 1978.
