San Giacomo Dell'Orio
The Chiesa di San Giacomo dall'Orio ( vec, Céxa de San Giacomo de l’Orio) (or San Giacomo Apostolo - Saint James the Apostle) is a church located in the ''sestiere'' (quarter) of Santa Croce in Venice, northern Italy. The origin of the church's name is unknown. Possibilities include being named after a laurel (''lauro'') that once stood nearby, a version of ''dal Rio'' ("of the river"), or once standing on an area of dried-up swamp ('). It was founded in the 9th century and rebuilt in 1225. The campanile dates from this period. There have been a number of rebuildings since that time (including a major renovation in 1532) and the ship's keel roof dates from the 14th century. Two of the columns were brought back from the Fourth Crusade, after the sacking of Constantinople. San Giacomo dall'Orio is a parish church of the Vicariate of San Polo-Santa Croce-Dorsoduro. The other churches in the parish are the churches of San Stae and San Zan Degolà. San Giacomo dell'Orio was ...

San Giacomo Di Rialto
San Giacomo di Rialto is a church in the sestiere of San Polo, Venice, northern Italy. The addition of ''Rialto'' to the name distinguishes this church from its namesake San Giacomo dell'Orio found in the sestiere of Santa Croce, on the same side of the Grand Canal. It has a large 15th-century clock above the entrance, a useful item in the Venetian business district but regarded as a standing joke for its inaccuracy. The Gothic portico is one of the few surviving examples in Venice. It has a Latin cross plan with a central dome. Inside, the Veneto-Byzantine capitals on the six columns of ancient Greek marble date from the 11th century. History According to tradition, San Giacomo is the oldest church in the city, supposedly consecrated in the year 421. Although documents exist mentioning the area but not the church in 1097, the first document citing the church dates from 1152. It was rebuilt in 1071, prompting the establishment of the Rialto market with bankers and money chang ...

San Giacomo Degli Spagnuoli
Nostra Signora del Sacro Cuore ("Our Lady of the Sacred Heart", also known as San Giacomo degli Spagnoli and in Spanish, Santiago de los Españoles) is a Catholic church dedicated to the Virgin Mary located in Rome's Piazza Navona. History An earlier church, San Giacomo degli Spagnoli (St James of the Spanish), had been erected in the same place, on the ruins of the Stadium of Domitian, in the 12th century. The first mention of this church is in the will of Henry of Castile (1230-1304), son of King Ferdinand III of Castile, who had given money to build it in 1259. The edifice was rebuilt for the Holy Year of 1450 using a gift from Alfonso de Paradinas, canon of the Cathedral of Seville. The façade, once facing the opposite side than now, was designed by Bernardo Rossellino. Pope Alexander VI, of Spanish origin, later had a square carved out in front of it, moving two hospices for Spanish pilgrims. Starting in 1506 San Giacomo was the national church of the kingdom of Cas ...

San Giacomo (Valle Castellana)
San Giacomo is a mountain village in the Province of Teramo in the Abruzzo region of Italy. It is a '' frazione'' of the '' comune'' of Valle Castellana. Geography San Giacomo lies at an altitude of 1105 m, within the Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park. The town takes its name from the presence of an ancient building, belonging to the monastery of San Giacomo, which once sat at a slightly lower elevation. This building served as a refuge for workers who once tilled the landholdings in the area that belonged to the church. One ridge in this area still carries the name ''Costa del prevosto'' (Ridge of the Provost) in reference to this fact. Borders San Giacomo is situated on the border of the Italian regions of Abruzzo and Marche. Prior to the formation of the united Italy in 1861, this land served at the point of demarcation between the Kingdom of Two Sicilies and the Vatican State. One marker stone dated 1847 identifies a boundary, probably first delineated ...
