San Francisco Sex Information
San Francisco Sex Information (SFSI) is an organization that provides free sex information via the World Wide Web, e-mail, telephone, and online social networking. SFSI also offers a bi-annual sex educator training program and various continuing education lectures, all located in San Francisco, California. Founded in 1973 by Maggi Rubenstein, Margo Rila, and Tony Ayers as a telephone service, SFSI describes its mission as providing "free, confidential, accurate, non-judgmental information about sex and reproductive health." Joani Blank (July 4, 1937 – August 6, 2016) was an American sex educator, entrepreneur, author, videographer, cohousing enthusiast, philanthropist, and inventor in the field of sexuality. She used publishing, her sex store, and other endeavors to promote sex-positive feminism. Her papers are part of the Human Sexuality Collection at Cornell University Library. Career Blank founded Down There Press, a publisher of sex-related books, in 1975. In 1977, she opened Good Vibrations, the second feminist sex toy business in the United States (the first having been Eve's Garden in New York City, which was founded by Dell Williams in 1974). David Nachman Lourea (August 26, 1945–November 10, 1992) was an American writer, AIDS activist, and bisexual rights activist. Early life and education David Lourea was born Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 26, 1945. He was raised Orthodox Jewish in Philadelphia, an antisemitic area at the time. Lourea later said his grandmother's encouragement to embrace his religion also made him more comfortable in his bisexuality, which he struggled with as a young man.
