San Francisco Dragons
The San Francisco Dragons were a professional field lacrosse team based in San Francisco and San Jose, California. From 2006–2008, they played in Major League Lacrosse and they ceased operations before the 2009 season due to the economic situation in the United States. Franchise history The San Francisco Dragons were awarded an MLL franchise in July 2005. The original owners were Michael Levitt, Chris Bulger, and Charley Biggs. The inaugural season commenced on May 28, 2006, against the Denver Outlaws. They lost the game 15–11, but went on to beat the Outlaws two times later in the season. The Dragons spent their first 2 seasons in Kezar Stadium. The Dragons had a strong inaugural season led by league MVP and Offensive Player of the Year, Ryan Powell. 2005 MLL Season
The 2005 Major League Lacrosse season was the fifth season of the league. The season began on May 20 and concluded with the championship game on August 21, 2005. This was the last MLL season when they just had 6 teams, and the next season, they had the new Western Conference. Denver Outlaws
The Denver Outlaws were a Major League Lacrosse professional men's field lacrosse team based in Denver, Colorado, United States. They began playing in the MLL in 2006 as an expansion team. Since joining the league, the Outlaws have played in the championship game a league-record ten times. They have only missed the playoffs once in franchise history and have never had a losing season. The Outlaws regularly post the highest attendance in the league. The Outlaws won their first MLL Championship on August 23, 2014, defeating the Rochester Rattlers 12-11 and won their second MLL Championship in 2016, defeating the Ohio Machine 19–18. Lacrosse is a team sport played with a lacrosse stick and a lacrosse ball. It is the oldest organized sport in North America, with its origins with the indigenous people of North America as early as the 12th century. The game was extensively modified by European colonists, reducing the violence, to create its current collegiate and professional form. Players use the head of the lacrosse stick to carry, pass, catch, and shoot the ball into the goal. 2006 MLL Season
The 2006 Major League Lacrosse season was the sixth season of the league. The season began on May 20 and concluded with the championship game on August 27, 2006. General information The season marked the first expansion teams in the MLL. Chicago Machine, Denver Outlaws, Los Angeles Riptide and San Francisco Dragons made up the new Western Conference. The original six teams formed the Eastern Conference. New Jersey moved its home games to Yurcak Field and Rochester moved its home games to PAETEC Park. On April 21, MLL announced a trade involving six teams and 24 players and draft picks. MLL believes it to be the largest trade in sports history. Long Island Lizards
The New York Lizards, originally the Long Island Lizards, were a Major League Lacrosse (MLL) team based in Hempstead, New York, located on Long Island. They are original members of the MLL. They lost the league's inaugural game on June 7, 2001 to the Baltimore Bayhawks (now Chesapeake Bayhawks), 16–13. History In the MLL's inaugural season in 2001, the Long Island Lizards split their home games between Hofstra Stadium, now James M. Shuart Stadium, and EAB Park (now Bethpage Ballpark).
