San Francesco, Piacenza
San Francesco is a medieval Roman Catholic church in Piacenza, Italy. It was built for a Franciscan order in a style described as Lombard Gothic. History The church and adjacent monastery were built for the Friars Minor order, between 1278 and 1363 under the patronage of the Ghibelline Umbertino Landi. It soon became a convent for nuns of the Clarissan order. From this church in 1547, Count Agostino Landi addressed the assembled people to announce that he and other nobles had murdered Pier Luigi Farnese, Duke of Parma. During the Napoleonic period despite a brief conversion of parts of the complex into armory and then a hospital, the church remained open. For a time it was dedicated to the early Christian martyr, St Napoleon. The church was returned to the clerics, but by 1810, they had left the convent. Giovanni Battista Trotti (1555 – 11 June 1612) was an Italian painter of the late-Renaissance period, active mainly in Piacenza, Parma, and his native city of Cremona. In Cremona, he was initially a pupil of Bernardino Campi, whose niece he married. He painted in the ''Palazzo dei Giardino'' in Parma. He painted a ''Crucifixion'' in the Cremona Cathedral; while in San Pietro, he painted a ''Santa Maria Egiziaca'' (St. Mary of Egypt). He painted the ''Beheading of John the Baptist'' for San Domenico at Cremona, and in San Francesco and Sant'Agostino at Piacenza. He was employed by the court of Parma, along with Agostino Carracci; and Agostino found Trotti disagreeable on which account he acquired the name of ''II Malosso'' (bad bone). Bernardino Gatti
Bernardino Gatti (c.1495 – 22 February 1576) was an Italian painter of the Renaissance, active mainly in Parma and Cremona. He is also commonly called il Sojaro. He was born in or near Pavia or Cremona. His early apprenticeship is unclear, though he was influenced by the pre-eminent local painters: Pordenone, alongside whose works are many of Gatti's frescoes, as well as Correggio. Gatti worked for 12 years, 1560–72, in the fresco decoration of the cupola of the duomo of Parma, where he was assisted by Bartholomaeus Spranger. His major works are the large fresco in the refectory of San Pietro in Cremona from 1552, frescoes in the dome of the Santa Maria della Steccata (1560–66) in Parma, and his ''Assunta'' in the Duomo of Cremona. Bartolomeo Schedoni (sometimes Schedone) (1578 – 23 December 1615) was an Italian early Baroque painter from Modena.
