San Felipe Del Rio Consolidated Independent School District
San Felipe-Del Rio Consolidated Independent School District (SFDR-CISD) is a school district based in Del Rio, Texas (USA). The school district serves all of the city of Del Rio and some unincorporated portions of Val Verde County, including Cienegas Terrace, Lake View, and Val Verde Park, as well as Laughlin Air Force Base. Dependent children who are residents of the base are zoned to SFDR-CISD schools. In 2009 the superintendent took measures to crack down on students from Mexico who were illegally attending district schools. Prior to the crackdown many residents of Ciudad Acuña used false addresses to attend SFDR-CISD schools. In 2009, the school district was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency. Del Rio is a city and the county seat of Val Verde County in southwestern Texas, United States. The city is 152 miles west of San Antonio. As of 2020, Del Rio had a population of 34,673. Val Verde County is a county located on the southern Edwards Plateau in the U.S. state of Texas. The 2020 population is 47,586. Its county seat is Del Rio. In 1936, Val Verde County received Recorded Texas Historic Landmark number 5625 to commemorate its founding. Val Verde, which means "green valley", was named for a battle of the American Civil War. In 1862, soldiers of Sibley's Brigade took part in the Texas invasion of New Mexico Territory, where they captured several artillery pieces at the Battle of Val Verde.
