San Cono, Catania
San Cono ( scn, Santu Conu) is a small village and in the Metropolitan City of Catania on the island of Sicily, southern Italy. It is an agricultural community, and is known particularly for its production of prickly pears. Geography Located in the south-eastern corner of the province, close to the provinces of Caltanissetta and Enna, San Cono borders with the municipalities of Mazzarino (CL), Piazza Armerina (EN) and San Michele di Ganzaria. History The town was named San Cono in 1785 by its founder, the Duke of Trigona Marquis Ottavio Trigona Bellotti. In 1883, the territory was divided into several parts and rented to the town's inhabitants. The town belonged to the Trigona family until the abolition of feudal rights. Conon Of Naso
Conon (3 June 1139 – 28 March 1236) was a Basilian abbot at Naso, Sicily. Religious life A famous tale from the life of Conon tells that he made a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, and whilst there he received a vision. In this vision, Conon witnessed a priest he knew being suffocated by a snake. Having returning from the Holy Land, he went directly to this priest and told him what he had seen. The priest at once confessed to Conon that he was taking church funds and keeping them for himself. Conon then persuaded his fellow priest to change his ways. Another tale tells of how Conon healed a Sicilian boy of his apoplexy. Legacy and veneration In 1571, Naso was in the midst of a dire famine. Saint Conus
Cono was a Benedictine monk. He was born in Diano (Italy) in the late 12th century, and became a monk in S.Maria di Cadossa Benedictine Monastery (now St. Cono sanctuary) near Montesano sulla Marcellana. He died very young in the early years of the 13th century with a reputation for holiness. When Cadossa monastery was closed his relics were returned to Diano in 1261, where he is venerated as its patron saint. The Saint was canonized on April 27, 1871 by Pope Pius IX.
