Samuthirakani
Samuthirakani (born 26 April 1973) is an Indian actor and film director who predominantly works in Tamil films and Telugu films besides appearing in a number of Malayalam films. He worked as an assistant to director K Balachander. He won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2016 for ''Visaranai''. Early life Samuthirakani was born on 26 April 1973 in Seithur, Rajapalayam, Tamil Nadu. He did his B.Sc. in Mathematics from the Rajapalayam Rajus College and he also earned a Bachelor of Law from Ambedkar Law College. However, he aimed to become an actor. He has said that people used to tell him that he did not have the physical appearanace or talent necessary to be an actor. Career In 1997, he joined as an assistant director under Sundar K. Vijayan. Appa (2016 Film)
''Appa'' ( ''Father'') is a 2016 Indian Tamil-language independent drama film written and directed by Samuthirakani and is produced by Sasikumar who also plays a guest appearance. The film is a spin-off to the 2012 film ''Saattai'' and the second installment in the film series. The film features Samuthirakani and Thambi Ramaiah reprising their roles from the previous film, while Namo Narayanan, Vignesh and Nasath play supporting roles. Featuring music composed by Ilaiyaraaja, the film began production in late 2015 and continued till March 2016. The film was released on 1 July 2016. ''Nimirndhu Nil'' () is a 2014 Indian Tamil-language action drama film written and directed by Samuthirakani featuring Jayam Ravi and Amala Paul. It was produced by KS Sreenivasan's Vaasan Visual Ventures. The film's soundtrack and background score were composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar. Ravi played a revolutionist for a social cause. ''Visaranai'' () is a 2015 Indian Tamil-language crime drama film written and directed by Vetrimaaran. It is based on the novel ''Lock Up'' by M. Chandrakumar. ''Unnai Charanadaindhen'' is a 2003 Indian Tamil-language romantic drama film directed by Samuthirakani, starring Venkat Prabhu, S. P. B. Charan and Meera Vasudevan. Samuthirakani's directorial debut, it was produced by Charan's Capital Film Works and features a soundtrack composed by S. P. Balasubrahmanyam. ''Janda Pai Kapiraju'' () is a 2015 Indian Telugu-language political action drama film. Janda Pai Kapiraju was written and directed by Samuthirakani, and features Nani and Amala Paul in lead roles.
