Phil Savath (December 28, 1946 - November 3, 2004) was an American-born Canadian film and television writer and producer. He was most noted as a two-time Genie Award nominee for Best Screenplay, with nominations for Original Screenplay at the 4th Genie Awards in 1983 for '' Big Meat Eater'' and Adapted Screenplay at the 10th Genie Awards in 1989 for ''The Outside Chance of Maximilian Glick''. His other film credits included ''Fast Company'', ''Samuel Lount'', and '' Terminal City Ricochet''. In television, he was a cocreator and star of the CBC Television children's comedy series ''Homemade TV'' and ''Range Ryder and the Calgary Kid'' in the 1970s. Cedric Smith (actor)
Cedric Smith (born 21 September 1943) is an English Canadian actor and musician. He played Alec King in the CBC television series '' Road to Avonlea'' and was the voice of Professor X in the ''X-Men'' TV series. Music Born in Bournemouth, Hampshire (now Dorset), England, Smith moved to Canada when he was about 10 years old. In 1961, he dropped out of high school to become a full-time folk singer. He was a member of the folk group Perth County Conspiracy, and wrote several songs that were performed and recorded by the band. Ca. 1963, he performed at the "Lemon Tree" a Dayton, Ohio coffee house for an extended time. Between sets he would read from a giant volume of Shakespeare. As a folk singer he sang at the "Ebony Knight" coffee house on Main Street in Hamilton in the mid '60s; he also had performances at the "Black Swan" coffee house in Stratford, Ontario in 1967 and 1968. Genie Award
The Genie Awards were given out annually by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television to recognize the best of Canadian cinema from 1980–2012. They succeeded the Canadian Film Awards (1949–1978; also known as the "Etrog Awards," for sculptor Sorel Etrog, who designed the statuette). Genie Award candidates were selected from submissions made by the owners of Canadian films or their representatives, based on the criteria laid out in the ''Genie Rules and Regulations'' booklet which is distributed to Academy members and industry members. Peer-group juries, assembled from volunteer members of the Academy, meet to screen the submissions and select a group of nominees. Academy members then vote on these nominations.
