Samuel Enderby Junior
Samuel Enderby Junior (1755–1829) was a British whaling merchant, significant in the history of whaling in Australia. Family background His father, Samuel Enderby (1717–1797), founded the firm named after him in 1775, when he assembled a fleet of whaling vessels on the Greenwich Peninsula, on the south bank of the Thames just downstream of the City of London. Samuel Enderby & Sons was a prominent whaling and sealing firm between 1775 and 1854. He was in partnership with a man named Buxton at St Paul's Wharf, i.e. near the cathedral of the City of London. Samuel Enderby senior married Mary Buxton, a daughter of his partner, and they had three sons, Charles, Samuel, and George, to whom he eventually bequeathed his estate. Samuel Enderby junior was baptised, as recorded in the protestant Dissenters Registry, on 4 June 1755. Charles married Elizabeth Goodwyn, and had an orphanage in Coombe Hill, Blackheath. Whaling In Australia
Whaling in Australian waters began in 1791 when five of the 11 ships in the Third Fleet landed their passengers and freight at Sydney Cove and then left Port Jackson to engage in whaling and seal hunting off the coast of Australia and New Zealand. The two main species hunted by such vessels in the early years were right and sperm whales. Humpback, bowhead and other whale species would later be taken. Whaling went on to be a major maritime industry in Australia providing work for hundreds of ships and thousands of men and contributing export products worth £4.2 million by 1850. Modern whaling using harpoon guns and iron hulled catchers was conducted in the twentieth century from shore-based stations in Western Australia, New South Wales and Queensland. Redhills () is a village located in northern County Cavan, Ireland. It is near the N54 road (Ireland), N54 road and is home to Redhills GFC, Redhills GAA club, which has produced four Cavan GAA, Cavan Inter-County players. St Botolph's Aldgate is a Church of England parish church in the City of London and also, as it lies outside the line of the city's former eastern walls, a part of the East End of London.
