Samuel Egerton
Samuel Egerton (28 December 1711 – 10 February 1780) was a British landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1754 to 1780. Life Samuel Egerton was born on 28 December 1711 at the family home, Tatton Park in Cheshire. Samuel was the son of John Egerton, a grandson of John Egerton, 2nd Earl of Bridgwater, and Elizabeth Barbour, daughter of Samuel Barbour. As the second son of the family, and not the heir to the estate, he travelled to Italy, where from 1730 to 1735 he was an apprentice to the art-dealer and connoisseur Joseph Smith in Venice. Career In 1738, Egerton became master of Tatton Park on the early death of his elder brother. In 1752, he became one of the guardians of Jane Revell, daughter of a relation by marriage, Thomas Revell of Fetcham Park. She was a minor in possession of a considerable fortune. 1768 British General Election
The 1768 British general election returned members to serve in the House of Commons of the 13th Parliament of Great Britain to be held, after the merger of the Parliament of England and the Parliament of Scotland in 1707. The election took place amid continuing shifts within politics which had occurred the accession of George III in 1760. The Tories who had long been in parliamentary opposition having not won an election since 1713 had disintegrated with its former parliamentarians gravitating between the various Whig factions, the Ministry, or continued political independence as a Country Gentleman. No Tory party existed at this point, though the label of Tory was occasionally used as a political insult by opposition groups against the government. Egerton Family
The Egerton family (pronunciation: "''edge-er-ton''") is a British aristocratic family. Over time, several members of the Egerton family were made Dukes, Earls, knights, baronets and peers. Hereditary titles held by the Egerton family include the dukedoms of Bridgewater (1720–1803) and Sutherland (since 1963), as well as the earldoms of Bridgewater (1617–1829), Wilton (1801–1999) and Egerton (1897–1909). Baron Egerton
Baron Egerton, of Tatton in the County Palatine of Chester, was a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 15 April 1859 for William Egerton (1806–1883), a politician from the Egerton family. History William Egerton (1806–1883) had earlier represented Lymington and Cheshire North in the House of Commons. His branch of the Egerton family is descended in the female line from Thomas Egerton, of Tatton Park in Cheshire, youngest son of John Egerton, 2nd Earl of Bridgewater. Thomas Egerton's granddaughter Hester Egerton (died 1780) married William Tatton. In 1780 they assumed by Royal licence the surname of Egerton in lieu of Tatton. Their son William Tatton Egerton sat as Member of Parliament for Chester. His son Wilbraham Egerton also represented this constituency in the House of Commons. Daniel Wilson (MP)
Daniel Wilson (1680 – 31 May 1754) of Dallam Tower, Westmorland was a British Whig politician who sat in the House of Commons for a total of 34 years between 1708 and 1747. Wilson was born on 8 March 1680, the son of Edward Wilson of Park House, Leck, Lancashire and his wife Katherine Fleming, daughter of Sir Daniel Fleming of Rydal Hall, Westmorland. He became a Justice of the Peace in 1706. Wilson was encouraged in his political career, by his uncle Sir William Fleming, 1st Baronet. At the 1708 general election he was elected as Whig Member of Parliament for Westmorland. He was returned unopposed in 1710 and 1713. Wilson was returned unopposed as MP for Westmorland at the 1715 general election. In 1716, he married Elizabeth Crowle, daughter of William Crowle, merchant, of Hull, Yorkshire.
