Samuel Brownlow Gray
Sir Samuel Brownlow Gray (27 April 1823 – 20 January 1910) was a barrister in Bermuda. Life Gray was born in St. George's, Bermuda, the son of Benjamin Charles Thomas Gray and Elizabeth Brownlow of Bermuda. He was called to the bar at Lincoln's Inn in 1847. He was Inspector of schools in Bermuda from 1848, and was in May 1861 appointed Attorney-General of Bermuda. In May 1900, he was appointed Chief Justice of Bermuda, and he served as President of the Legislative Council. He stepped down from both positions in 1905. Honours He was appointed a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) in January 1888, and knighted in the King's Birthday Honours November 1901. Personal life and death A keen tennis player, he helped introduce the game to Bermuda. Gray married, in 1851, Eliza Anne Trimingham, daughter of Hon. James H. Trimingham. Barrister
A barrister is a type of lawyer in common law jurisdictions. Barristers mostly specialise in courtroom advocacy and litigation. Their tasks include taking cases in superior courts and tribunals, drafting legal pleadings, researching law and giving expert legal opinions. Barristers are distinguished from both solicitors and chartered legal executives, who have more direct access to clients, and may do transactional legal work. It is mainly barristers who are appointed as judges, and they are rarely hired by clients directly. Reginald Gray (politician)
Sir Reginald Gray KC (29 December 1851–15 September 1935) was a Bermudian barrister and politician. The son of Sir Samuel Brownlow Gray, Attorney-General and Chief Justice of Bermuda, Gray was educated at Burlington House School in London and was called to the bar by the Inner Temple in 1875. Returning to his native Bermuda to practise, he was a member of the House of Assembly from 1895 until 1928. He served as Attorney-General of Bermuda from 1900 to 1919 and Speaker of the House of Assembly from 1921 to 1929. In 1884, Gray compiled ''Laws of Bermuda from 1690 to 1883''.
