''Samtiden'' is a Norwegian political and literary magazine. History and profile ''Samtiden'' was founded by Jørgen Brunchorst and Gerhard Gran in 1890. The magazine's first publisher was ''John Griegs forlag'' (Bergen), and from 1900 Aschehoug (Oslo). Gran was the magazine's editor from 1892 to 1925. As of 2002 Thomas Hylland Eriksen was the editor-in-chief of the magazine. Cathrine Sandnes has been editor-in-chief since 2006. ''Samtiden'' is a member of the Eurozine network. Cathrine Sandnes
Cathrine Sandnes (born 19 March 1972) is a Norwegian martial artist, journalist and magazine editor. She was born in Korea, and is married to politician Aslak Sira Myhre. Sandnes served as editor-in-chief of the political and cultural magazine ''Samtiden'' from 2006 to 2014. From 2014 she was leader of the publishing house Manifest. She was assigned with Gyldendal Norsk Forlag from 2017 to 2019, and with the publishing house J.M. Stenersen since 2019. Andreas Hofgaard Winsnes
Andreas Hofgaard Winsnes (25 October 1889 – 9 July 1972) was a Norwegian literary historian and educator. Biography Winsnes was born in Nord-Odal, Norway. He was the son of Frederik Vilhelm Vinsnes (1837-1920) and Agnete Helweg (1850-1918). He completed his examen artium in 1908 at Oslo Cathedral School. He became Cand.philol. from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1913 and Dr.philos. in 1920. In 1937, Winsnes became a lecturer in German literature and was appointed professor at the University of Oslo from 1937. During World War II, he became director of the Norwegian-British Institute in London from 1942-45. After the war, he was editor of '' Samtiden'' from 1945-46. In 1953, he was among the founders of the Norwegian Academy (''Det Norske Akademi for Språk og Litteratur''). Gerhard Gran
Gerhard von der Lippe Gran (9 December 1856 – 7 April 1925) was a Norwegian literary historian, professor, magazine editor, essayist and biographer. Personal life Gran was born in Bergen as the son of merchant Christen Knagenhjelm Gran (1822–1899) and his wife Constance Mowinckel (1827–1889). He was the paternal grandson of politician Jens Gran, and a second cousin of botanist Haaken Hasberg Gran and aviator Tryggve Gran. On the maternal side was a first cousin of Wenche von der Lippe Mowinckel, who was a granddaughter of Jacob von der Lippe and mother of Arthur, Waldemar and Gerhard C. Kallevig. Wenche lived with Gerhard Gran's family while attending school. Jørgen Brunchorst
Jørgen Brunchorst (10 August 1862 – 19 May 1917) was a Norwegian natural scientist, politician and diplomat. Biography Brunchorst was born in Bergen, the son of ship builder and – captain Christian Ege Brunchorst (1835–64) and his wife Emma Wesenberg (1837–1919). His nephew Knut Fægri was one of the most outstanding botanists of the 19th century. Brunchorst specialised in botany at university, and after finishing his Ph.D. in Germany, he became director of Bergen Museum. In this position, he worked towards popularising the natural sciences, and was also a pioneer in the field of plant pathology in Norway. Brunchorst was also a politician, representing the Liberal Party and later the Coalition Party. He sat in the Norwegian parliament in the periods 1895–97 and 1903–06. John Sanness
John Christian Munthe Sanness (24 May 1913 – 6 November 1984) was a Norwegian historian and politician for the Labour Party. He is known as the director of the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs from 1960 to 1983, professor at the University of Oslo from 1966 to 1983 and chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee from 1979 to 1981. Early career He was born in Leipzig as a son of Stian Sanness (1880–1966) and Hanne Theodora Munthe (1882–1954). The family moved to Kristiania seven years later, and Sanness attended Kristiania Cathedral School. He joined the revolutionary group ''Mot Dag'' during this period, and was expelled from his school for protests against the 25-year anniversary of the monarchy in 1930. Thomas Hylland Eriksen
Thomas Hylland Eriksen (born February 6, 1962) is a Norwegian anthropologist. He is currently a professor of social anthropology at the University of Oslo, as well as the 2015–2016 president of the European Association of Social Anthropologists. He is a member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters. Academic career Born in Oslo, Eriksen has done fieldwork in Trinidad and Mauritius, and later in Norway and Australia. He is currently doing research on scale and globalisation in the Seychelles. His fields of research include identity, nationalism, globalisation and identity politics. Knut Olav Åmås (born 19 January 1968) is a Norwegian writer, editor and politician for the Conservative Party. He hails from Odda. He holds a cand.philol. degree in philosophy, having taken his master's thesis on Ludwig Wittgenstein at the University of Bergen.
