Samten Bhutia is an Indian film director and writer from Sikkim. He has been actively involved in Nepalese film industry over the last decade. He recently directed ''Taandro'' which was screened at the Dhaka International film festival. His first film ''Latter'' was well received by people from Nepal and India. He also acted in a short film, ''Myth''. East Sikkim
Gangtok District, formerly the East Sikkim district, is an administrative district of the Indian States and territories of India, state of Sikkim. It was renamed in 2021 as a result of administrative reorganisation of the state, which also saw three subdivisions of the East Sikkim district spawned off as a separate Pakyong district. The headquarters of the Gangtok district is Gangtok, which is also the state capital. Gangtok is the hub of all administrative activity in the state. Sikkim (; ) is a state in Northeastern India. The film is based on the book ''Smriti Ka Dobharu'' written by Ganga Bahadur Lama. The story of the film is based on the confrontation between the Government of Nepal and the Maoists followed by the civil rights movement which came to an end after the overthrow of the Nepalese Monarchy and establishment of a People's Republic. ''Anaagat'' ( ne, अनागत) is a 2019 Nepali language psychological thriller directed by Samten Bhutia and produced by Mountain River Films and Tiny but Big Pictures Production. The seed for the film was sown when Chandra K. Jha, who went on to become one of the producers of the film, pitched his story idea to Samten Bhutia. In subsequent meetings between the two of them and Prabachan Shrestha, the screenwriter, the story took shape quickly and a full-fledged screenplay followed soon after. Even at this early stage, there was a unanimous opinion that the leading roles of Kriti and Suresh should be played by actors Priyanka Karki and Arpan Thapa, respectively.
