Sami Abu Shehadeh
Sami Abu Shehadeh ( ar, سامي ابو شحادة, he, סָאמִי אַבּוּ שְׁחַאדַה) is an Arab citizens of Israel, Israeli Arab politician. He is the leader of Balad (political party), Balad, and served as a member of the Knesset for the Joint List from 2019 to 2022. Biography Abu Shehadeh was born in Lod to a Muslim family and raised in Jaffa. He attended Terra Santa High School, a Catholic school located in Old Jaffa. Abu Shehadeh studied for a master's degree in Middle Eastern history at Tel Aviv University, and wrote a doctorate on Jaffa as a cultural center during the Mandatory Palestine, British Mandate. Political career Abu Shehadeh was a member of the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality, Tel Aviv-Yafo City Council for a number of years until 2013, on behalf of the Jaffa faction. Joint List
The Joint List ( ar, القائمة المشتركة, ''al-Qa'imah al-Mushtarakah'', he, הָרְשִׁימָה הַמְּשֻׁתֶּפֶת, ''HaReshima HaMeshutefet'') was a political alliance of four of the Arab-Israeli, Arab-majority political parties in Israel: Hadash, Balad (political party), Balad, United Arab List, Ra'am and Ta'al. Ra'am left the alliance on 28 January 2021. With Balad (political party), Balad wanting to leave the coalition, it was subsequently dissolved in 2022. The alliance was the third-largest faction in the List of members of the twentieth Knesset, Knesset after the 2015 Israeli legislative election, 2015 election, estimated to have received 82% of the Arab vote. Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality ( he, עיריית תל אביב-יפו) is the arm of local government responsible for the administration of the Israeli city of Tel Aviv-Yafo. Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality handles such municipal affairs as education, culture, social welfare, infrastructure, urban planning and sanitation. The current head of the municipality is Ron Huldai. History Meir Dizengoff was appointed head of the town planning in 1911. When Tel Aviv was recognized as a city, Dizengoff was elected mayor, remaining in office until his death. The Tel Aviv municipality was initially located on Rothschild Boulevard. When more office space was needed, the municipality rented a hotel on Bialik Street, near the home of national poet Chaim Nachman Bialik, which had been built by the Skura family in 1924. Knesset
The Knesset ( he, הַכְּנֶסֶת ; "gathering" or "assembly") is the unicameral legislature of Israel. As the supreme state body, the Knesset is sovereign and thus has complete control of the entirety of the Israeli government (with the exception of checks and balances from the courts and local governments). The Knesset passes all laws, elects the president and prime minister (although the latter is ceremonially appointed by the President), approves the cabinet, and supervises the work of the government, among other things. In addition, the Knesset elects the state comptroller. It also has the power to waive the immunity of its members, remove the president and the state comptroller from office, dissolve the government in a constructive vote of no confidence, and to dissolve itself and call new elections.
