Samer Abu Daqqa
Samer Abu Daqqa ( ar, سامر أبو دقة; – 15 December 2023) was a Belgian-Palestinian video journalist working for Al Jazeera. He was killed during the 2023 Israel–Hamas war after the Israeli army bombed an Al Jazeera crew in Khan Yunis on 15 December 2023, while he was covering a Haifa School airstrike. Early life and education Born in 1978, he was a native of Khan Younis. Abu Daqqa held a bachelor's degree in journalism and media from Al-Azhar University in Gaza. Career Abu Daqqa began his work as a journalist in Al-Shaab newspaper. He then in 2004 moved to work for Al-Jazeera. He was one of the founders of the channel's office in the occupied Gaza Strip, where he worked as a photographer and technician for Al-Jazeera for more than twenty years. Personal life and death Abu Daqqa also held Belgian citizenship and was the father of three sons and a daughter. His family lived in Belgium. Israeli Military Governorate
The Israeli Military Governorate was a military governance system established following the Six-Day War in June 1967, in order to govern the civilian population of the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, the Sinai Peninsula and the Western part of Golan Heights. The governance was based on the Fourth Geneva Convention, which provides guidelines for military rule in occupied areas. East Jerusalem was the only exception from this order, and it was added to Jerusalem municipal area as early as 1967, and extending Israeli law to the area effectively annexing it in 1980. During this period, the UN and many sources referred to the military governed areas as Occupied Arab Territories. The Egypt–Israel peace treaty led Israel to give up the Sinai Peninsula in 1982 and transform the military rule in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank into the Israeli Civil Administration in 1981. ''Al-Quds'' ( ar, القدس) is a Palestinian Arabic language daily newspaper, based in Jerusalem. It is published in broadsheet format. It is the largest circulation daily newspaper in the Palestinian territories. It was founded in 1967 as a result of a merger of two publications: ''Al-Difa'' (in Arabic الدفاع) and ''Al-Jihad'' (in Arabic الجهاد). The owner of the former ''Al-Jihad'' newspaper (which was founded in 1951), Mahmoud Abu-Zalaf, served as its first editor-in-chief until his death in 2005. It is currently edited by his son, Walid Abu-Zalaf. ''Al-Quds'' is the most widely read Palestinian daily. In addition to paper circulation, the newspaper publishes its content online in PDF and HTML format. On 17 December 2008, the newspaper's website began publishing content in Persian.
