Sameer Tanti
Sameer Tanti (born 6 February 1955) is an Assamese language poet from India. He is the 2012 winner of the Assam Valley Literary Award. Biography Sameer Tant was born on 6 February 1955 at Behora, Mikirchang tea estate in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam, India. He studied at Bihora Mikirchang P primary school in Golaghat, higher secondary from Haflong Government College, graduation in English literature from Dergaon college and Master's degree in English from Gauhati University in 1983. He worked as a faculty member at Saraighat College before working as a translator with an English daily newspaper in Guwahati and then as a tourist information officer in the Department of Tourism, Government of Assam. Works Sameer Tanti has written fourteen poetry books, four critical essays, and two translations of African and Japanese books. he has also edited two short story collections. Karbi Anglong District
Karbi Anglong district is one of the 34 administrative districts of Assam in India. Diphu is the administrative headquarter of the district. The district is administered by Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council according to the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India. Etymology The name "Karbi Anglong" is derived from Karbi language. The word ''Karbi'' is the name of indigenous tribe living in and around the region. The origin of the word ''Karbi'' is unknown. The tribe call themselves as Arleng, meaning "Humans." Assamese-language Writers
Assamese (), also Asamiya ( ), is an Indo-Aryan language spoken mainly in the north-east Indian state of Assam, where it is an official language, and it serves as a '' lingua franca'' of the wider region. The easternmost Indo-Iranian language, it has over 23 million speakers. Nefamese, an Assamese-based pidgin, is used in Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagamese, an Assamese-based Creole language, is widely used in Nagaland. Assam
Assam (; ) is a state in northeastern India, south of the eastern Himalayas along the Brahmaputra and Barak River valleys. Assam covers an area of . Sahitya Akademi Award
The Sahitya Akademi Award is a literary honour in India, which the Sahitya Akademi, India's National Academy of Letters, annually confers on writers of the most outstanding books of literary merit published in any of the 22 languages of the 8th Schedule to the Indian constitution as well as in English and Rajasthani language. Established in 1954, the award comprises a plaque and a cash prize of ₹ 1,00,000. The award's purpose is to recognise and promote excellence in Indian writing and also acknowledge new trends. The annual process of selecting awardees runs for the preceding twelve months. The plaque awarded by the Sahitya Akademi was designed by the Indian film-maker Satyajit Ray.
