The Principality of Rügen; da, Fyrstendømmet Rygien; pl, Księstwo rugijskie; la, Rugia was a Danish principality, formerly a duchy, consisting of the island of Rügen and the adjacent mainland from 1168 until 1325. It was governed by a local dynasty of princes of the ''Wizlawiden'' (''House of Wizlaw'') dynasty. For at least part of this period, Rügen was subject to the Holy Roman Empire. Danish conquest and conversion The Danes conquered the Rani stronghold of Arkona in 1168. The rulers of the Rani became vassals of the Danish king, and the Slavic population was gradually Christianized. Sambor I, ''princeps Pomoranorum'' ( csb, Sambór I) (c. 1150 – c. 1207) was regentLoew PO: Danzig. He was the elder son of Duke Sobiesław I and an early scion of the Samborides dynasty, which is named after him. According to the '' Chronica seu originale regum et principum Poloniae'' by Wincenty Kadłubek, Sambor I between 1177 and 1180 was recognized as Duke of Pomerelia and successor of his father by the Polish High Duke Casimir II the Just. He resided at Gdańsk, where he promoted the immigration of German settlers in the course of the ''Ostsiedlung'' and founded the St. Nicholas' Church about 1190. Sambor II of Tczew ( pl, Sambor II Tczewski; c. 1211/1212 – December 1277 or 1278) was a duke of Pomerania and prince of Lubiszewo Tczewskie. Sambor was a son of Mestwin I, Duke of Pomerania, and member of the Samborides. He was married to Matilda, daughter of Henry Borwin II, Lord of Mecklenburg. His daughter, Margaret Sambiria, became Queen of Denmark in 1248 by marriage with Christopher I of Denmark. Sambor's only son Subisław died in 1254. After that Sambor founded a new Cistercian monastery, Samboria, located in present-day Pelplin. However, he was excommunicated in March 1266 for failure to return lands to a convent at Oliwa. Sambor fought against his brother, Swantopolk II (''Swietopelk''), and allied himself with the Teutonic Order. Sambor willed most of his possessions, including Gniew (Mewe), to the Teutonic Knights. Sambor Dam
The Sambor Dam is a proposed dam and hydroelectric power station on the Mekong River south of Sambor village in Prek Kampi District, Kratie Province, Cambodia. If built, it would be the lowest dam of the Mekong's mainstream dams, and largest in Cambodia. The Cambodian Government sees the dam as an important potential source of income and if the dam is constructed, expects to sell 70% of the power generated to Vietnam and 10% to Thailand. The balance would be directed to domestic energy markets. The dam's construction is opposed by several non-governmental organizations and civil society groups.
