The Calcutta High Court is the oldest High Court in India. It is located in B.B.D. Bagh, Kolkata, West Bengal. Pinaki Chandra Ghose (born 28 May 1952) was the 1st Lokpal of India serving since 23 March 2019 to 27 May 2022. He is a retired judge of the Supreme Court of India. Early life and education Justice Ghose has had a longstanding association with The Ramakrishna Mission. He had his schooling at The Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapeeth at Deogarh and Purulia. Career Prior to his elevation to the Supreme Court, he had served as Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, and before that, as a Judge of the Calcutta High Court. At the time of appointment he was a member of the National Human Rights Commission. A Lokpal ( sa, लोकपाल ''lokapāla'', "defender of people" or "People's Friend") is an anti-corruption authority or body of ombudsman who represents the public interest in the Republic of India. The current Chairperson of Lokpal is Pradip Kumar Mohanty.
