Samawa FC
Al-Samawa SC ( ar, نادي السماوة), is an Iraqi sports club based in As-Samawa, Al-Muthanna, Iraq, which plays in the Iraq Division One, the second tier of the Iraqi football. The club's home stadium is As Samawah Stadium. History Al-Samawa Sports Club was founded in 1963 by Shamkhi Jabr Athab, the first president of the club was Hatem Rashid Deibes. In 1974 the team played in the Iraqi Premier League since the beginning of the league, they won sixth place. In the end of next season 1975–76 they came in last place and relegated to Iraq Division One. The club returned to play in the Premier League again in the 1999–2000 season, and continued for seven seasons until they relegated to Division One in the 2005–06 season. 2005–06 Iraqi Premier League
The 2005–06 Iraqi Premier League kicked off on October 28, 2005. The 28 teams were split into four groups of seven. At the end of the group stage, the top three teams from each group (a total of 12 teams) advanced to the Elite Stage. In the Elite Stage, these 12 teams were split into four groups of three, with teams playing home and away against each team in their group respectively. The top team in each of the four groups moved on to the semi-finals, followed by a third place match and the final. Al-Zawraa won the league without losing a match. Shaker Mahmoud
Shaker Mahmoud Hamza (born 5 May 1963) is an Iraqi football midfielder who played for Iraq in the 1986 FIFA World Cup. He also played for Al-Shabab. He helped Iraq to their second Olympic Games in 1984 in Los Angeles, United States, where he played in all three games against Canada, Cameroon and Yugoslavia. Samir Kadhim Hassan
Samir Kadhim Hassan is an Iraqi football defender who played for Iraq in the 1996 Asian Cup. He also played for Al Wakra Samir was a dominating and aggressive man-marker and a regular for the Iraqi national team during the 1990s. He was a member of Iraq's Asian Youth Championship winning team in 1988 in Doha, Qatar which included goalkeeper Emad Hashim, captain Radhi Shenaishil and attacking midfielder Laith Hussein. A year later, Samir participated in the World Youth Cup, helping Iraq top a group featuring Argentina, Norway and Spain, but in the 2nd round the Iraqi team lost 2–1 to USA. Samir was part of the 1998 World Cup campaign that ended when Iraq lost home and away to Kazakhstan. Samir retired from the national team in 1999, 10 years after making his debut. The 2015–16 Iraqi Premier League (known as the Fuchs Premier League for sponsorship reasons) was the 42nd season of the Iraqi Premier League since its establishment in 1974. The season started on 15 September 2015 and concluded on 22 May 2016. Al-Zawraa won a record 13th Iraqi Premier League title, finishing one point ahead of defending champions Naft Al-Wasat. 2007–08 Iraqi Premier League
The 2007–08 Iraqi Premier League season started on 26 November 2007 and ended on 24 August 2008. The season saw Erbil crowned as champions for the second time in a row, beating Al-Zawraa 1–0 after extra time in the final. For security reasons, the league was divided into three groups: South, North and Central. The top six clubs from the Central Group and the top four clubs from the North and South Groups qualified for the Elite Stage. The Elite Stage consisted of three groups, of which the winners and one runner-up qualified for the Golden Stage, a knockout contest. The Golden Stage matches were held at Al-Shaab Stadium in Baghdad. The champions and runners-up qualified for the 2009 AFC Cup, while third-placed Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya qualified for the 2008–09 Arab Champions League. The 1999–2000 Iraqi First Division was the 26th season of the competition since its foundation in 1974. The name of the league was changed from ''Iraqi Premier League'' to ''Iraqi First Division'', and the season kicked off on 1 October 1999. The league title was won by Al-Zawraa for the second season in a row and the ninth time in their history. Iraq Division One
The Iraq Division One is the second-highest division of the Iraqi football league system after the Premier League. The league is contested by 24 clubs. It is operated by the Iraq Football Association (IFA). Each season, the two top-finishing teams in the Division One are automatically promoted to the Premier League. The four lowest-finishing teams in the Division One are relegated to Division Two. The number of clubs in the league have changed throughout history, most recently in the 2021–22 season when the number of clubs decreased from 28 to 24. 1975–76 Iraqi National League
The 1975–76 Iraqi National Clubs First Division was the 2nd season of the competition since its foundation in 1974. Newly-promoted club Al-Zawraa, founded in 1969, won the league title and also won the Iraq FA Cup to complete the first national double in Iraqi football. Al-Zawraa's squad included many of the players that played for Al-Naqil in the 1974–75 season, a club that folded due to financial difficulties after finishing as league runners-up that campaign. Iraqi Premier League
The Iraqi Premier League ( ar, الدوري العراقي الممتاز) is the top level of the Iraqi football league system. Contested by 20 clubs, it is operated by the Iraq Football Association (IFA) and operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Iraq Division One. The league was formed by the IFA in 1974 as the Iraqi National Clubs First Division, the first nationwide league of clubs in Iraq. The current format sees 20 teams playing 38 matches each (playing each team in the league twice, home and away), totalling 380 matches in the season. Of the 80 teams to have competed since the inception of the league in 1974, eleven have won the title.
