Samaritan Hospital (Troy, New York)
Samaritan Hospital is a community hospital in Troy, New York and a founding member of Northeast Health System and managed by St. Peter's Health Partners. The main campus is at 2215 Burdett Ave Troy, New York. A second campus is located at the site of the former St. Mary's Hospital, also in Troy, while a third campus is at Albany Memorial. History Samaritan Hospital was founded in 1898, largely through the efforts of Dr. Edmund D. Ferguson. Located at Eighth Street, it moved to Burdett Avenue in 1914. George and Robert Cluett of Cluett, Coon & Co., manfacturers of men's shirt collars, erected and equipped the administration building, three pavilions, and the employees' building. The house for the nurses at the hospital training school was donated by Mary L. Thurman, daughter and heir of John R. Thurman, late director of the Sacket's Harbor and Saratoga Railroad. Samaritan Health System was a hospital network and health care system which was located in Arizona from 1911 to 1999, when it merged to become part of Banner Health. History In 1911, when Arizona was a territory, the first hospital in the city of Phoenix, Arizona was started by a Methodist Deaconess, Miss Lulu Clifton, who was cured of tuberculosis by living in the dry Arizona climate. She attempted to repay the community by working to establish Arizona Deaconess Hospital, a Methodist entity. The hospital provided care to those with respiratory diseases and helped meet the medical needs of the small but growing community. The hospital's name was changed to Good Samaritan Hospital in 1928. Community leaders were actively involved in the board of the hospital and helped obtain financing to serve the Phoenix's rapidly expanding population. The Samaritan Hospital for Women was a hospital in Marylebone Road, London. It is a Grade II listed building. History The hospital had its origins in the Gynaepathic Institute which was founded by Dr William Jones in Manchester Square in January 1847. The institute moved to North Audley Street in March 1847 and became the Free Hospital for Women and Children and Samaritan Institution in February 1848. It moved again, this time to Orchard Street as the Free Hospital for Women and Children in March 1850 and then to Lower Seymour Street with the same name in 1858. The Royal Samaritan Hospital was a hospital for women in Govanhill, Glasgow, Scotland. History The hospital had its origins in a converted house in South Cumberland Street which opened in January 1886. It moved to Kingston House in Tradeston in 1890 and to a new purpose‑built hospital, designed by MacWhannel and Rogerson, in Coplaw Street in 1895. The Alice Mary Corbett Memorial Nurses' Home was completed in 1904, funded by the grandmother of Elsie Cameron Corbett. Samaritan's Touch Care Center is a nonprofit outpatient medical clinic with two Highlands County, Florida, locations - one in Sebring and one in Lake Placid.
