The Samaná Península is a peninsula in Dominican Republic situated in the province of Samaná. The Samaná Peninsula is connected to the rest of the state by the isthmus of Samaná; to its south is Samaná Bay. The peninsula contains many beaches, especially in the city of Santa Bárbara de Samaná. It contains three rivers. Transportation The main roads are the DR-5 and the Samaná Highway, which leads from the peninsula to Santo Domingo. Samaná Province
Samaná () is a Provinces of the Dominican Republic, province of the Dominican Republic in the Samaná Peninsula located in the eastern region. Its Capital (political), capital is Samaná (town), Santa Bárbara de Samaná, usually known as Samaná. Samaná Bay
Samaná Bay is a bay in the eastern Dominican Republic. The Yuna River flows into Samaná Bay, and it is located south of the town of Samaná and the Samaná Peninsula. Wildlife Among its features are protected islands that serve as nesting sites for pelicans and frigatebirds, caves with Taíno pictographs and petroglyphs, and mangrove-lined river tributaries. It is a significant breeding site for the humpback whale in the Caribbean; the breeding season attracts many whale-watchers. Geography Samaná Bay lies along the boundary between the North American Plate and the Caribbean plate. Two named fault lines run the length of Samaná Bay. Beaches
A beach is a landform alongside a body of water which consists of loose particles. The particles composing a beach are typically made from rock, such as sand, gravel, shingle, pebbles, etc., or biological sources, such as mollusc shells or coralline algae. Sediments settle in different densities and structures, depending on the local wave action and weather, creating different textures, colors and gradients or layers of material. Though some beaches form on inland freshwater locations such as lakes and rivers, most beaches are in coastal areas where wave or current action deposits and reworks sediments. Samaná (old spelling: Xamaná), in full Santa Bárbara de Samaná, is a town and municipality in northeastern Dominican Republic and is the capital of Samaná Province. It is located on the northern coast of Samaná Bay. The town is an important tourism destination and is the main center for whale-watching tours in the Caribbean region. DR-5
DR-5 is of one of the main highways in the Dominican Republic. The highway begins at a T-interchange with DR-1 in Villa Bisonó in the small town of Navarrete located about 20 kilometers northwest of Santiago de los Caballeros. Its endpoint is the municipal district Las Galeras. Initially DR-5 starts north of Santiago with a junction with DR-1. Samaná El Catey International Airport , also called Aeropuerto Internacional Presidente Juan Bosch (AISA), is an international airport that opened on 6 November 2006, serving the province of Samaná in the Dominican Republic. The airport is located near the village of El Catey, some west of Sánchez, at the base of the mountainous peninsula Cape Samana. Local travel times are given as 30 minutes drive to Las Terrenas, 40 minutes drive to the provincial capital, Santa Barbara de Samaná, and approximately one hour drive to Las Galeras.
